    *shrugs*

Obviously the 2nd best time to get off Twitter is "now," but I do find it very telling that the mainstream center really didn't care enough to bother until it affected them. They were quite fine swimming around in fascist propaganda and Elon's ecosystem of disinformation until they lost an election. Which says a lot of about normalized fascist ideology is and has been for a long time in American life.

(all of which is of course besides the point that by running to Bluesky they're just opening themselves up to fascist surveillance as nazis and the reactionary tech right invest in THAT platform; but one hill at a time I guess...)

Yeah, Robert Habeck, who will be running as candidate for the Greens in upcoming German elections, just went right back into Edgelord Elron's gutter because of *checks notes* "resistance".

Active participation and hence support, framed as "resistance".

And like, I've heard all the excuses; shit like "we have go where the customers/eyeballs are" and so forth - but all you're really saying is "fascism is profitable" and "there's a baseline point where I will happy go along to get along with fascism and it's not based on what's morally right so much as how many people embrace American nazism." Which is A) unsurprising and B) the "it was a different time" excuse for fascist collaboration.

This is why I've always been pretty resistant to the idea that the fash are coming for the liberal establishment quite frankly. Yes there is a point in the distant future where they will run out of leftists and marginalized people to isolate, persecute and eliminate, but influential liberals will be incentivized to simply join up with the nazis long before that, and everything about both history and their current behavior suggests they'll take it.

@AnarchoNinaWrites The best time was 8 years ago when I quit twitter and facebook.. I thought then as I do now that the less nazis in my life the better.

@Ulrich_the_elder yeah, pretty much always the case. If folks had shunned the fascists a decade ago, we wouldn't be where we are today.

@Infoseepage It already exists; I own a copy and given how hard it is to find sometimes, it's one of the prizes of my library.

BM and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance between Nazi Germany and America's Most Powerful Corporation by Edwin Black.

@Infoseepage That one, I can't predict. I wouldn't bet against it tho, given how much of history and how fascist works we suddenly remembered the last time Trump was elected.
