Somebody went to the trouble of tearing down two anti-Xi posters that someone had posted high on pillars with strong tape. They must have literally gotten something to stand on to tear them down. These were posters that were put up (higher) to replace a previous poster that had also been torn down. (This is a Japanese campus, not somewhere in China.)
@supakaity Well, actually I was able to get it to recognize the very first part, by opening a window in the Finder that contained the System Control Panel app and double-clicking it. But it didn't recognize anything I subsequently did in the control panel.
@supakaity Thank you, Kaity. I just tried to record what I want to (open System Control Panel, select "Sound," "Select output," "Close panel," but ScriptEditor didn't recognize any of it.
Does anyone know how I can automate changing a setting in the system control panel using Siri or voice control? I want to be able to quickly toggle sound output settings, but looking at Voice Control and looking at Shortcuts, I can't find anything that could let me do that. I can't even get Voice Control to open the system control panel.
@drhettie Leon StinkyCrotch lashing out at Mastodon is hilarious on several levels, but mostly because he is the main reason most of us moved over here.
@timnitGebru I have to admit that your posts on Effective Altruism lead me to some googling and reading, because I wasn't familiar with them. Oh, my. Frankly, the name itself is just full of hubris. And is there a discussion on what measures of "effectiveness" actually mean, or is it just more white savior stuff? Sigh.
I hope I do not come to be seen primarily as that bitch who scolds people for not including image descriptions, but it seems to be going in that direction. If you struggle with image descriptions, ask for help.
Obviously, a lot of voters don't have money to donate to anybody or anything. But as Blue Tent points out, there's only so much that can be done with money. Helping out with local grassroots organizations can be far more effective than donated money. Blue Tent has information about these groups and honestly assesses their effectiveness. Here's a piece they published on what you can do after this past election. https://bluetent.us/blog/after-the-midterms-here-what-democratuc-donors-need-to-get-b/
There's an opinion column in the Washington Post by David Byler titled "Politicians probably don't need your money." The gist is, once a candidate has enough money, more won't make a difference, and it's true. What does make a difference is contributing to grassroots organizations. If you're a U.S. citizen, may I recommend Blue Tent? Blue Tent tells you the most effective way to use your money, routing your contribution to the people who will put it to good use. https://bluetent.us/
