今週、読み聞かせに参加する子供の一人が一生懸命で英語で書いたお礼の手紙をくれた。そして１ヶ月ほど前に、別の子と手を繋いで歩いてたら、倉庫が突然英語で「Rachel-san! I love you!?」と言ってくれて、私が?????ってなって「いやいや、私こそ愛してるよ、この天使！?」と思った。７歳児は、めちゃ疲れるけど、可愛い時は可愛すぎて全てが許されるよね。

This week, one of the children gave me the sweetest thank you letter, which she wrote entirely in English. And about a month ago, I was walking with another child, holding her skinny little hand, and she suddenly said, in English, "Rachel-san! I love you!?" I was like ? ? ? ? ? "No, *I* love *you*, you little angel!? " 7-year-olds can be exhausting, but they more than make up for it by being such sweet, pure little bundles of joy.

６月に読み聞かせを始めたけど、プライド月間だったので最初に読んだ本は全部LGBT+関係だった。うまくいったので毎週やろうと決めて、今も時々LGBT+の本を読むけど、子供達も親御さんもまったく問題ないみたい。

I started doing this in June, when I started with a bunch of queer children's books, like I Am Jazz, What Riley Wore, Stella Brings the Family, When Aiden Became a Brother, etc. It went over really well, so I decided to do it every week. I sneak in some queer books (like My Maddy and My Shadow Is Pink) and it's no big deal for either the kids or their parents.

毎週の金曜日の晩、８時から娘の学校の１年生のために英語絵本の読み聞かせをする。最初の２冊は２ヶ国語で読む。（即行で通訳する?）最後の２冊は英語だけで読んで、難しいところを日本語で説明する。中には今年の４月まで英語ゼロだった子もいるけど、とても楽しそうに聞いてくれる。私にとってもめちゃくちゃ幸せな１週間の終わり方。読み終わってみんなに「おやすみ〜」と言った頃には、ストレスレベルがドンと下がってる?

Every Friday evening, at 8:00, I do an English picture book read-aloud for the 1st graders in my daughter's school. I read the first two books in both English and Japanese (translating on the fly), and then read the last two in just English, occasionally explaining things in Japanese. Some of the kids never studied English before this April, but they seem to love it, and it is a really pleasant way to end my week. My stress levels have plummeted by the time we finish and say good night.?

I think it must be somewhat terrifying to big corporations to consider the possibility of huge numbers of people migrating to a social networking platform that refuses to be monetized. I think the Fediverse represents a pretty significant threat to capitalism.

@WorldOfCrap So this is Miss Manners teasingly telling the reader that they're overthinking things? Well, that's a relief. I thought maybe some new "one table, one baby" rule had been formed in my (long) absence.

@WorldOfCrap It's kind of embarrassing that I can apparently no longer reliably recognize American sarcasm. (Sarcasm is rare in Japan, even as a form of humor.)

@yamako 百合マンガや百合アニメとのコラボです。キャラクターのでかいシールが貼ってあります。今では百合じゃないいろんな作品とのコラボをやっているけど、２、3年（？）基本的に百合専用でした。
