I hope it doesn't need saying but:

Do NOT use USB splitters if one of the devices supports quickcharge or USB-PD.

If you use a splitter to e.g charge a phone while also connecting a DAC or speaker or whatever, the phone might negotiate 9, 12 or even 20V from the USB port the splitter is plugged into, which will cause everything else on that same splitter that only supports 5v to get fried.

I've seen some reports of people accidentally running into this.. So please be careful with splitters.

@mattly it's based on the same concepts as (trackerless) Torrents. AFAIK it uses a DHT (Distributed Hash Table) to find and connect to other nodes you own, and uses this for "UDP hole punching", which allows it to communicate with other nodes you own after the connection has been set up. This works by having every node participate in this DHT, just like with Torrent clients. I guess in addition they might also have relays.

I get it feels weird though, I also prefer just self hosting things.

@billiam @sun idk if I'd really consider it the meme version.

You always have to define intolerance, and while some are more fierce with this than others, what I really wanted to say is that nobody has to tolerate you not tolerating someone else.

It doesn't always have to be physical violence for it to be a fair point. I do however think that the response should be proportional; By all means, meet violence with violence, but if someone doesn't like your existence, you don't have to like theirs

@billiam @sun yea I mean, I know Popper's description of it, and I think it's fair because we shouldn't look for conflict even if people are messing with the definition of intolerance-- but I personally think that it can be extended in a peaceful and compatible way to say that, if someone is merely less physically intolerant e.g verbally or by some actions or other, that it's still entirely fair to do the same back, in a proportional way. That's still not the same as looking for conflict AFAICT.

@sun that's fair, though I think that's in general an important aspect of tolerance; it's a balance of sorts, you have to clearly outline what is considered intolerance, it doesn't just mean everyone you disagree with is to be considered intolerant.

@sun not sure, I mean, IMHO there's a difference between tolerance and being allowed into someone's private club.

You don't have to let everyone into every aspect of your personal life, that's not the same as tolerance, which is simply respecting each other and their own existence
If anything, I'd say tolerance allows for having your own spaces too, whether they're minority or otherwise; people should tolerate this without demanding everything to be broken down.

    Tolerance is a mutual contract.

and if someone isn't tolerant, they are breaching this contract.

therefore, it's completely fair to be intolerant to the intolerant; they're the ones who broke the contract.

    Practical example:
"respect my ideas, and my ideas include not tolerating diversity" -> breach of tolerance contract, does not deserve to be tolerated.

IMHO it's completely fair to demand from people who are demanding tolerance that they're tolerant, because they're doing the exact same 🤷

Please stop squeezing the avocados at the grocery store.

You'll just ruin all the avocados and it's not even a good way to tell if it's ripe. If you want to know if it's ripe, look at the stem, if it's still green it's not ripe yet, if it's brown it's ripe. It's also the first place you'll notice if it's moulding.

If you squeezed an avocado at the grocery store, that's now your avocado, don't you dare putting that back istg I will hunt you down 3:<

@SuperDicq @thawkade when this originally happened, it severely degraded my opinion of LibreOffice and I honestly just never really got over it. Imagine having such salty whiny anti-furry people in your leadership to do such a thing; after all the support everyone gave it, cancelling the whole competition *just* because they don't like the result. Absolutely mindblowing to me.

    @bmacDonald94 I like to put it this way;

Intelligence is having knowledge that's relevant, wisdom is applied intelligence.

Or in practical terms; Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is to not put it in fruit salad

The WINE 10.0 change list looks amazing:
    - ARM support
    - Many graphics pipeline and touch input improvements, could be worth trying this with programs like Paint tool SAI and CSP
    - Better high DPI and scaling support
    - Native Wayland support
    - Improved COM/RPC proxies and calling
    - Moving from GStreamer to FFmpeg for decoding things should improve many things, also things like game intro videos etc.
    - and much more

It's kind of sad to see TikTok users fleeing the platform being met with hatred here because some people not agreeing with the term "TikTok Refugee".

If anyone ever wonders why people consider the fediverse hostile, I think this is an excellent example. We can do better than that.

I understand if you feel the term is a bit loaded, but if you want to point people to it, at very least try and be kind about it instead of trying to insult new innocent users.

Severely tired of people whining about offline opensource AI models as if they are somehow as offensive as large online corporate capitalist models.

Once again people are screaming murder about things they just don't understand, because they refuse to have the slightest bit of nuance in their opinions.

This is basically like going back in time and being upset about weather prediction models because "AI"

Flaming hot take: Being against "AI" is useless because it's become a generic marketing term to denominate all of ML, and I SINCERELY HOPE people can agree that being against weather prediction models, spam filters, OCR, and search engines in general, just because you don't like ChatGPT and the likes thereof (which I do fully understand!), is insane?

Can people *PLEASE* come up with a more nuanced take than "AI bad >:c"? Please?

I fully understand if you hate it when:
    - companies scrape the entire internet for training data without consent
    - use these tools to put actual humans that have worked hard to become good at their arts and crafts out of a job so that some CEO can get a multi-million bonus
    - in general make money over other people's backs
    - plagiarize copyrighted works and somehow get fucking away with it too
    - etc

    But:
    - Blame those who actually do these immoral things
    - and preferably don't limit it to "AI" 🤷
