one phenomenon that seems to get more and more blatant is that left-to-center (and supposedly "liberal") parties make full use of the rise of fascist parties to push enact more authoritarianism themselves.

their ideology is their sales pitch, but state power is their lifeblood. and as long as there is a convincingly "greater evil", the opportunity for doing evil themselves.

i remember some of his speeches where he was _very_ "wink wink nudge nudge" about not killing people. randomly stumbled over it so it probably wasn't the only time.
