@salad_bar_breath 100 percent with you on this. and who catches a disproportionate amount of the shit from this kind of thing and then gets forgotten about? trans women, per fucking usual. every fucking time something like this happen friends of mine end up dead or with their lives ruined, their support system blown up, or some similar consequence. feels like walking around with landmines strapped to your shoes a lot of the time, fuck.

@terraboop I think the biggest thing I was unprepared for was the amount of transmisogyny in queer/trans spaces and how few people even acknowledge that it exists. before I transitioned I was kind of naive and assumed that with a few exceptions, it'd be a big happy family in there (since that was more or less my experience presenting as a queer man). people always were saying shit like "trans women are women!" and "trans rights!" etc. etc. etc. and talking about how much they supported us, you know? but I quickly learned how much of that talk was just talk. Turns out, there are few places I've been treated worse than gay bars and trans support groups. seeing, over and over again, community-minded trans women creating spaces and groups and then being made pariahs in them and forced out absolutely broke my heart.

A few things I've picked up over the years in heavy industry, etc.:

- Structural steel is not supposed to feel spongy.

- There is such a thing as load-bearing rust.

- The grease you have a 40 gallon drum of is always for a non-critical piece of equipment that only needs to be greased once a year. The grease you have a single half-empty tube of is the kind you need for half the equipment in the facility. They are NEVER compatible.

- If you ever have to check the manual for the "never-exceed" operating parameters, they're always slightly below the current operating parameters.

- The likelihood of having a particular replacement part on hand is inversely proportional to how critical the part is to the equipment's functionality.

And most importantly:

- Do not, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, wash a Navy chief's coffee cup.
