@purlturtle Yes! Absolutely!
If you can understand what is draining your energy, and what gives you energy, and you can manage whatās going on, you can use that information to avoid collapsing in overwhelm or pushing beyond your exhaustion to collapsing in that way as well.

People are going to respond to the exact same thing in different ways because they have their own histories, and youāre not going to be able to always know that.
I Said No: How I Dealt with Anxiety Waiting for a Backlash
If you try unmasking, and it goes well, and you get a wave of anxiety afterwards: that is an entirely normal reaction.
Itās not a signal that anything went wrong. Itās a protective strategy that some of our brains are very accustomed to doing.

Youāre not alone. Youāre not the only one who feels that. Youāre not the only one whoās weird in that particular way.

There is a whole community of Autistics out there struggling with burnout, exhaustion, social interactions, exclusion, lack of accommodations, sensory overwhelm, and more.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
And these things are not intrinsic to Autism. They are part of how society is designed to exclude differences to try to get us to conform.
They can be changed and we will all be better off for it.
