@scottmiller42 What did republicans do when they were in the minority over the last 20 years? They were loud and confrontational on all media outlets, they used every arcane procedure to slow things down and outright stop bills from passing, they framed the conversation according to their terms. Sorry no, Dem leadership does not get a free pass! If they refuse to lead, we must replace them with people who will.

@persagen Elon is a true product of Apartheid South Africa, isn't he? Combine those disgusting values with the sociopathy and fascist-loving tendencies so common to the obscenely wealthy, and you have one hell of a winner. Don't suppose he could take a trip to one of his dad's emerald mines and just ... never come out?

@saharafang @LALegault @persagen In part, when people like that practice open bigotry and cruelty, it gives license to those who have been hiding under rocks for fear of what the majority of the community would think of them if they did it. Also, many people worship those with money with the same fervor as religious zealots worship their god. They think that emulation of the obscenely wealthy will somehow grant them a chance to attain similar wealth.

She is a Filipino journalist who discovered that algorithmic social media sites were being deliberately used to amplify anger, bigotry and fascism for the purpose of electing hard right political candidates. The Philippines were the test bed, and it then came to us in 2016 and beyond.
