Hmmm, not exactly? As outlined in this post https://mastodon.online/@lerekofatwgo/111399044898982811 that will also mute the offshoots. Sure, muting users is sort of an option, but it's not ideal, as I most often just want to mute an individual conversation in a thread and still see the rest if the branches/the people elsewhere
Being able to go "no, I don't want my username to be tagged in this specific thread branch" is different

Twitter has the option of you untagging yourself from the conversation, preventing future mentions. Something similar would be cool here!
