@johnlogic My first online stuff was using talk on the Vax to chat with friends at other schools. It seemed magical!

@Lana Seems to me that once you get those glocks, a gang of teachers can roam around town holding up office depots for school supplies. The guns will pay for themselves!

@kingrat wow, mastodon is the best place for finding answers to obscure questions, thanks!
Still, it seems sort of shitty. No non-profit in the world could find the surviving rights holders for this music to pay them their 15 cents of royalties. Apple gets to squat on millions of songs behind a pay wall. I guess that's just the way it's always worked. -

My wife is going through apple music, and all of a sudden Bumblescrump, 15, Crimpshrine, Jack Acid and The Gods Hate Kansas come on. It's cool that they have obscure music, but I know for a fact that they don't own the rights or have an agreement with the owner to stream some of that stuff. What's up with that?

@kingrat Beyond serialization, I usually give up on ORMs after a point because they get too hard to optimize. I wrote a tiny ORM for php that I use. It can get one table's data with where clauses and look up items by id, but nothing more.
I find that, once a bunch of joins are involved, figuring out what's slowing down an ORM is more time consuming than just manually writing the query. -

Wow, sqlalchemy's serialization is SLOW.
