In the US, the elimination of the IRS Direct File is a clear understanding of who they are working for.

Not for the people. But for the lobby of that parasitic industry of tax filing, namely Intuit and H&R Block.

(CPA are not).

From the standpoint of Canada: we don't have direct filing either, unless using paper. We have an American industry parasite skimming of the top of taxes that our Govt refuse to protect us from.

And this parasite all hate paying taxes though.

You have to pay Intuit for some spyware to file your taxes electronically. Every year. With no legal protection against your private financial information.

How could this be solved?

Go to your (Canadian) tax agency website. (In Quebec we must do it twice) Open your account, update the form with extra info, submit.
For most people they already have it as your tax forms from the employer have already been sent.

(it's stupid that you have repeat info they already got)

The Federal law makers could pass a bill that would be as follow:

No Government (any level) agency shall require a proprietary vendor software to communicate with them electronically.

These PDF forms that only work with Adobe spyware? GONE.
This tax system that doesn't include a web form to file it online? UPGRADED.

This mobile app that require Google Play (Integrity) or iOS ? GONE.

Etc.

Of course this probably clash with the neocon ideology they worship. And their tech illiteracy.
