ChatGPT still can't reliably do basic math.

This fact ought to be the headlines about AI instead of all the hype.

"the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime" is itself an indictment of the American justice system. Since every president has been a criminal, often a war criminal.

As an anthropologist in SETI research I consider our planet's systemic institutional and widespread transphobia as one of the key indicators that we are not a global culture that is remotely ready to make contact with life beyond Earth.

There are many others (racism, speciesism, capitalism, ableism, etc) but the mainstreaming of transphobia, with official policy and ideology consistency being bent back toward bigotry, bias, and oppression, is unique in some key ways.

I've seen a lot of incredible descriptions over past few months of the layoffs going on in tech and how awful they are.

All of them are exactly the way I saw it done at a giant corporate insurance company in the early 2000s when I was a temp.

They called every employee into an auditorium, told them all that a percent of people were being fired. Sent them back to their desks to wait for the rest of the day in a coms blackout to hear who, then sent home that day with boxes to carry their stuff.

The company didn't want the mass firings to impact their share price so they basically locked all the employees up for the day until their PR department could make the announcement and brief the media on their own terms. So they prevented this entire high-rise building full of people from having contact with the outside world after they had been told they were likely to be fired that day.

This is how corporations have always been. Capitalism is just evil.

The number of people on Twitter delivering one liners into the void while neo-facsist zombies rise up all around them is pretty strange.

Someone shared this on here, and it was boosted into my feed, and I read it, and it's a great summary of the emergent form of cross-partisan conspiracy fascism that seems to be taking over US popular culture at the moment.
