As an anthropologist in SETI research I consider our planet's systemic institutional and widespread transphobia as one of the key indicators that we are not a global culture that is remotely ready to make contact with life beyond Earth.

There are many others (racism, speciesism, capitalism, ableism, etc) but the mainstreaming of transphobia, with official policy and ideology consistency being bent back toward bigotry, bias, and oppression, is unique in some key ways.
