@BeAware my original ask was for a solution that didn’t require to be on anything or authenticate in any way. ActivityPub provides what I was looking for except that it requires authentication and therefore an account on the fediverse.
What I’d hope for here would be a simple probably unauthenticated API (lower barrier to entry) that allows to basically send the equivalent of a reaction emoji, optionally with your name or email or other identifier. Not to game some algorithm, no payment. Just: hey you, I read this. Thanks.
Using an RSS feed reader more now. Liking it, but I feel the strong urge to appreciate/acknowledge what I read. A heart or like in a sense as a signal to the author. But I can’t…
What I just realized is that #activitypub core property is that it makes feeds two way conversations. Where with RSS you just quietly read. ActivityPub enables feeding back with replies and other signals like the “like” and “heart” type that I suggested. So… probably #activitypub is the solution to what I was looking for. The only constraint is that to contribute you need to be on the #fediverse
Whenever we dismiss the output of an #LLM as “see how this is just a stupid fancy autocomplete HAHAHA” I cannot shake the thought that this may actually be just a coping mechanism. We’re trying to make sense of the fact that our “special skills”, “creativity” and “humanity” may either not mean as much as we would like to think, or doesn’t require being a human at all.
Perhaps controversial, but I’m looking forward to be able to follow people on #Threads from my Mastodon server. There’s a ton of people worth following there that realistically will just not migrate to Mastodon any time soon.
I’m listening to this episode of @changelog on #OpenTF and I’m increasingly convinced that any type of tech infrastructure has to be and remain #OpenSource. The unsolved problem does remain funding these projects. Often the model is either large corp backing or VC funding. The latter may well just set expectations too high in terms on ROI. https://overcast.fm/+HZUd4r73M
