@scy backup software, a category where software quality canonically is not such a big deal.
I'm sure this all will end very very well.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I *really* don't want European Hyperscalers to be a thing. Hyperscalers are at best a market/regulation failure and at worst a huge risk to create another one of these "too big to fail" scenarios.
I want a sane and healthy landscape of small- to midsize competitors in the hosting landscape.
It makes everything more robust and reliable.
Not sure why this is not a shared understanding anymore.
@thomasfuchs I guess you have your reason for this, but I always think about it like this: if we can transform cities so that most people either walk, bike or have accessible public transport, then we have ample room for delivery, people who really need cars, emergency services etc.
With some limits this can also be true in more rural areas, but of course I'm thinking central European population densities.
Most of the US isn't even trying, though, so where should the nuance come from?
@whitequark Not sure if you care and I don't think it's still a valid reason at all anymore but Jekyll started out as "that thing that creates GitHub pages". I think it was possible to host static html as well relatively early or even from the start, though. GitHub was still *very* ruby centric at the time so it made some sense.
@emilygorcenski Fascinating. How do US dishwashers prevent buildup of limescale?
@emilygorcenski Is that not a thing in the US?
