EH Lupton (pretensesoup@romancelandia.club)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Nov-2024 02:16:19 JST EH Lupton #writersCoffeeClub 11/4: Do you find your writing skills or writer's instinct useful in other walks of life?
My incredible attention to detail, developed while I was a copyeditor (academic writing was my specialty), is very useful in my normal career of code monkey.
My "writer's instincts" also ruin most books and tv shows for me unless I make a real effort to get lost in them. The "I wouldn't have approached it that way" doesn't necessarily turn off.

EH Lupton (pretensesoup@romancelandia.club)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Apr-2024 06:21:29 JST EH Lupton @Schnuckster bookstores use BISAC subject headings (in North America, anyway). I think probably it's easier for shelving—not all books are published with DDC already done, plus bookstores want to move books around to draw attention, and allegedly BISAC is less biased toward Western culture...

EH Lupton (pretensesoup@romancelandia.club)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2024 18:02:11 JST EH Lupton Narrator of this book is asked if a deed can be good if it also benefits the do-er. Pretty weak sauce as questions go, but his answer is the worst. First he calls it a "Kobiyashi Maru question" (an unwinnable scenario in Star Trek; at best it's like...a question about which one could have an opinion), and then goes on to use the phrase "one- sided quid pro quo," which is nonsense. I just...do you even philosophy, bruh?

Matching by number, gender, AND case is a little silly. And a lot of times, the forms kind of run together and you wind up with the same ending and what, exactly, is the point of that? I would decline to decline.
