We’ve been preparing for this for years—my youngest has always had a passion for Japanese language, manga, anime, cuisine, and culture. Now they are actually there, flying from Tokyo to the prefecture they will call home for at least the next year. They were accepted into the JET program and will be employed as an assistant language teacher (ALT). @nancylwayne @design_law I think you both make good points. I came here in fall of 2022 and instantly felt the tone change—I felt welcomed. I set up lots of # to follow. Once I found the accounts I wanted to follow, I deleted some # and now see the content I want to see—mostly real people posting about their own interests. Different platforms offer different experiences—Mastodon offers the social part of social media, which is what I’ve been looking for.
