at least two dozen times today i wrote a message or post and then re-read it after sending to notice i forgot an entire word somewhere that i thought i had written
i mean this happens to me usually sometimes, but the rate it's happening when sleep deprived is 4x
it doesn't really protect against the laws it's suppose to, because those laws were made with only centralized services as a consideration
so federating data and specially media across instances inherently breaks them
so, i think it shouldn't be merged, because it's an option that adds barely any protection at the cost of user privacy, but if it is merged, i doubt many instances will enable it, so kinda w/e? unsure
let's see how it goes, and remember, no attacking devs or people
i think a major issue is people (like me) who mainly runs linux, usually glibc linux, and is not aware of the differences needed to build in different unixes
sure i'm picking them up now over time, but having a system that already deals with them for me helps avoiding reinventing the wheel one piece at a time
autotools tho... yeah you don't need 90% of the checks
@lanodan ./configure is shipped with the tarball so you don't need the build system in your machine... except you still need make so...
shipping an auto-generated script that most people glance over is not the best idea
tho our other options are, raw make which not great for big things, cmake which, ew, and meson/muon -- out of those it'd either go with make or muon for core infra
@lanodan i'm porting hiredict to meson and muon at the same time, and so far everything seems to be supported up to meson 0.61.0 (which is meson's lts with support to python 3.6 i think)
and i barely see projects going past 0.61.0 for now (and most still use 0.58), so i think i hope for the compat
@fasterthanlime while micro-libraries still irk me a bit, my issues with them are not really anything i actually worry about
the major issue with the rust ecosystem is the lack of integration with the rest of the system: vendoring every dependency, no easy way to update them without patching the lockfiles of every package a distro may ship, static linking only, randomly building vendored and possibly outdated c libraries inside build.rs (one of the worst ones), etc
