@bot@JAJAX What do you mean "dedicated colleges"? There are the "historically black colleges", but I don't know of any university in the US that caters specifically to black people.
@JAJAX@bot That's part of it for merit-based. My argument is more of a steelman against the "[race] people are only high-achieving in university because of generational wealth". I argue that anyone who receives a scholarship (especially a race-based one) is also benefiting from generational wealth. So, the only people who really are disadvantaged in terms of getting into university are those who cannot get any kind of scholarship, financial aid, and don't have good grades.
@bot Scholarships are usually funded by old rich people. Merit-based scholarships indeed require work on the recipient's part, but race- and religious-based scholarships often don't. Therefore, it's still just free money from an older rich person, who just happens to not be blood-related to you.
(Part 7) So, for some reason, DHCP loans really suck with these routers. Many times, the computers in the computer lab and other people's devices fight for the same IP address. Often, the computers lose and suddenly I have to reconfigure Ansible and Veyon (monitoring program).
The same thing seemed to happen with the router. I noticed the ISP techs did something right for once and actually labeled the AP with an IP address: 192.168.75
So, I look in the main router's DHCP log: Now it's a phone
(Part 8) -I just realized I haven't been quoting for a few posts, so this thread became broken. Oops-
My question is... What should I do now? I have already wasted several hours on this and my pay isn't increasing. It's frustrating and I'm angry with the administrators who didn't consult with me before having the ISP people set up the routers.
Should I just tell the admins to call in the ISP guys while I'm in, so we can rework the whole network?
(Part 6) Did I mention I have no formal sysadmin training? Well, I don't. I was asked to set up the computer lab and other things in a rush last year and I learned everything I know on the spot mostly by watching YouTube videos (shoutout to NetworkChuck) and reading blog posts.
Because of the time crunch I was under, I couldn't figure out how to properly implement Static IPs for the computer lab (they're all connected by WiFi cuz of budget) and DHCP pools confused me.
@alex I used Tusky on my Android tablet and realized that you and your partner's instance spinster.xyz was in a blacklist called "rickroll domains" which triggers Rick Astley's music video to come up when you enter the domain into Tusky. Their FAQ says, "if this offends you, find another app", so I forked it and removed the rickroll Anti-Feature. Why would Tusky put spinster.xyz in that blacklist and do you think blacklists go against fediverse ethics?
