@kingrat They no longer have to provude any process now unless local law and leadership want to have any. Sweeps have accelerates in #Seattle too. Guy Oron had some intense charts over on bluesky (https://bsky.app/profile/guyoron.net/post/3lekhmdwox22f) for a project he's working on. The #HarrellHorrorShow continues.I didn't expect him to be WORSE than Durkan and yet.
I am spelunking through public datasets in #Seattle and there's always stuff that I am like "why is this not available" but apparently we spend money on keeping track of graffiti on a DAILY basis. Priorities!
My family was on a coastal camping vacation in NW oregon last week. This morning I'm reminded that despite having intermittent intestinal issues I never had to worry about toilet access. Every historic or tourist site had ample public toilets. State parks of course had plenty (& of course 💩-ing in the woods & packing out is fine). Seaside, OR's tourist beach front area likely had more public toilet stalls just for women than downtown Seattle has from Denny to Holgate entirely. #Toilets#Seattle
The gaps and complexities of the disconnected bike network in #Seattle are so much more apparent when your 10.5 year old is gloriously enjoying biking and doing well but you have to deal with the weird gaps and figure the safest way to have the kiddo attempt getting through them. Yesterday's example: how does a person get from Lake Washington Blvd to Jefferson Park on low stress or protected paths? You can't without significant sidewalk use or going miles out of the way.
A note for the local #Seattle folks. The bulk of high profile state party democrats endorsed city attorney Ann Davison's election despite her previous advocacy for absolutely awful ideas on handling housing & homelessness. Her office submitted an amicus in favor of the Supreme Court review of the Grants Pass case, now overturned 6-3. This decision gives the city legal cover to sweep folks with no offer of shelter or housing availability. #StopTheSweeps#HarrellHorrorShowhttps://freeradical.zone/@r343l/112694684936465054
@kingrat relatedly I got some email notices from google which forward to my non-google email about some data for a feature of google photos (“face groups”) being deleted if I don’t login and use google photos. AFAIK the only time I’ve used google photos is to look at images shared with me by others and I have no data of my own in it. I also had never heard of “face groups” which again I don’t think I’ve ever used.
@kingrat I have no read the source article but the convos about it that I’ve seen were interesting and mostly about the realities of being a woman in US society.
@nullagent This is just wtf. Like regardless of state law ALLOWING this kind of enforcement, supposedly we have staffing issues and lots of crime going unchecked.
Womp womp. The powerful never face consequences. The city paid millions for Mayor Durkan’s and other executives’ illegal actions in deleting text messages. But Durkan, Best and others won’t face prosecution for breaking the law.
A long piece at KNKX about the availability and quality of drug treatment programs in Washington after #WaLeg made possession a gross misdemeanor and proponents claim the intent is to get folks into treatment. Of course the criminalization part finds a court and jail system and the treatment system is running on decades of neglect and underfunding so even new funding will take a long time. https://www.knkx.org/law/2023-06-29/washingtons-new-drug-law-was-designed-to-fill-our-treatment-centers-experts-say-it-wont
I live in Seattle with my family and work in tech. I'm also disabled (mostly deaf & blind on one side). I ride the bus, walk or bike most of the time and I care a lot about our transportation system working for everyone. I spend a lot of my not-work time on local advocacy, family stuff, pottery and our unitarian universalist church. Pronouns: They/themNote: I have multiple accounts and not posting all topics from one account. This one is for Seattle, urbanism & regional political stuff!
