I can’t speak for you, but in my view, if chat AI does nothing more than revolutionize the absolutely miserable state of phone menus (IVR), and all other forms of phone support, it will have earned its place in tech history and my heart. (And probably prevent a few rage killings, too.)

Well, it’s not a huge sample, but I bet it won’t change much as it grows. It makes my point nicely. Most people never did have an issue with quoted posts. The sooner Mastodon’s flagship instances support it, the better, imo.

@cra1g And their insistence on things like that, as well as a zero tolerance approach to moderation, is what drove so many journalists and influencers away after the migration had brought such a huge flood of immigrants. Most won’t return until there’s a good reason to. It was a huge unforced error.

Social media without quoted posts is like liquor without alcohol. It just doesn’t have the same impact on me. I am still mystified about why anyone strenuously defends their absence. It sounded reactionary the first time I heard the objections, and it’s never gotten better since.

And there it is. The future. If we can just stop quibbling over bullshit long enough to just get on with it.

Almost everything Republicans have touched for the last 75 years has turned to shit and hurt America. There are so few exceptions to this that it’s just astonishing that they right-controlled media has been able to brainwash much of the country into thinking that “both parties” share equal blame. @tchambers I’ve enabled fedi at threads, for @shoqvalue, but, after 2 days to propagate, ‘m not seeing that account when I search masto.social for it. Is this a known issue thus far?

This makes me very happy. Since Firefox still doesn’t support the Chrome V3 manifest, this gives people who are disgusted with Chrome a good option for using our extension. (coming soon, we swear).

Hey fedi head. It’s been months since I’ve asked this: what fediverse search tools (or engines) exist as of now? Are there libraries adding value to Mastodon’s existing search that admins can opt into? Has anyone entered into the fedi-wide search kerfuffle since those earlier forays into it?

This has been my point for about a year. Anyone who thinks this AI disruption isn’t going to be transformative is just asleep at the wheel. No, transformative doesn’t mean better. But that’s entirely beside the point. We’re not the deciders.

Now things are getting interesting. The “Threadiverse” could have been a focus years ago, before big social polluted almost everything. But RSS and now ActivityPub (and others) are creating a sub-space where we might finally focus on content a wee bit deeper than freestyle micro-blogging.

Just these 3 trending topics illustrate nicely why friends shouldn’t let friends use Twitter for more than 5 minutes a week while waiting for it to die.

I’ve never believed capital punishment would deter criminals. But I’ve never been as certain that guillotines wouldn’t deter plutocrats and fascists.

The American media is monetizing Trump precisely the same way they did in 2016, and the so-called liberal media, what little there is of it, is almost as guilty as CNN and MSNBC.

This has taken a giant dump in the jury pool. I’m as angry as I was the day this broke. It was such an unforced error. They have likely screwed up one of the biggest trials in American history. For sex. And they may be in legal trouble themselves now.
