And yes I will absolutely work for free in a world where I can just go to the store and get whatever I need and walk out with it. Money is fucking dumb. The economy is fake. And someone responded, “but Benito is Catholic?” And the way some of y’all don’t understand that these people don’t consider Catholics to be real Christians. The idea that we *ought to* be “neutral” or “apolitical” and this is somehow a moral good only helps oppressors

@nyx_lyb3ra I don’t think I really agree with the consent argument here. By being in public you explicitly consent to being exposed to other people existing in public, even if it makes you uncomfortable. People have a right to protest for example or to be openly gay (ideally) or practice their religion whether or not you personally consent to seeing it.

@alice @dalias I know this is probably frustrating and maybe feels contrarian but some people do post porn on main with no cw and yeah choosing to be part of their audience means understanding that they do that. I follow people right now that sometimes post content that is sexually explicit and makes me uncomfortable. I can choose to unfollow or block or filter. I don’t think I have a right to demand they curate their posts for me.

@alice I hear what you’re saying but I don’t think I agree in all cases. I do try to cw broadly triggering content, but I think in this case there are tools like word filters that you can use on the flip side to avoid trauma triggers or you can choose to block somehow who frequently posts about things that are triggering for you. I think what people choose to cw on their own platform is under their discretion and personally I’ve decided that I specifically don’t cw politics

This is something I’ve seen black folks especially highlight is a belief in a “right to comfort” that upholds white supremacy. That people—especially white people—will only act as long as they don’t experience discomfort. I’ve seen folks unironically say that they think it’s unreasonable for allyship to mean giving up anything. If your allyship only exists within the bounds of your comfort, it is functionally worthless. Growth and change happen outside the comfort zone

And maybe this is a hot take but I think this extends to cw culture on mastodon and the persistent desire for people—again especially white people—to exist in a world that is free of “politics”. There’s a demand and expectation to not ever have to be made uncomfortable that disproportionately favors people that exist along the most axis of privilege and makes those who exist on the least axis of privilege feel like they have to hide their lived experiences to make sure nobody ever feels uncomfy
