Sorry folks I meant to get this press release out sooner but it’s been a real struggle with current events. I’ve made a lot of progress on it though and should be done soon
The latest early access stable build is now published! If you want to be one of the first people to install @elementary OS 8, you can grab it for a sponsorship of any dollar amount—including one-time sponsorships. Check it out https://builds.elementary.io/
Now for me to wrap up that press release and figure out the public release date. Maybe that’s Monday work 😅
Got all those release branches approved. Building last 3 packages in launchpad rn. Once those publish, I’ll spin a new RC and send that sponsors update. Home stretch! OS 8 is imminent!
It seems like systemd-sysupdate and bootc are kind of the most popular atomic update paths here. At least trying to start the conversation so we can finally implement this in a reliable way
So @davidmhewitt is a boss and fixed the installer localization! I prepared a few releases this morning and when those are merged I’ll build a new stable ISO and send out an update to sponsors.
Gonna turn my attention back to wrapping up the press release. I need to poke a couple people about availability to pick a release date but I think we have no major blockers now. OS 8 is done*
Greeter 8 is released and built. I have a branch to build docker images so we can populate appstream metadata. Can try a stable channel build as early as tomorrow tbh. Also Ryo fixed the GRUB timeout thingy that’s been an issue forever 🎉
I have now have branches up for review for both of the big greeter/installer blocking issues! Feeling pretty damn good about that. Cross your fingers for speedy review and we’ll get RCs going :)
Started drafting. I have most of the information on a page. Just gotta organize it into a story and make it readable and then add pictures and links etc
In some other fun news though, @leolost added bottom edge swipe to reveal the dock which is fantastic and essential for multitasking on tablet and he’s got a branch to do window manager gestures natively instead of using Touchegg which is pretty neat and should open some new possibilities https://github.com/elementary/gala/pull/2096
