The integrity of The State of itself was at stake and it was better to lead legislative effort and take the lumps than risk whole fucking biscuit in upholding Jim Crow, plus knock on Electoral Benefit immediately.

As much as one might fret about the peril of a Direct Democracy populated by a demos of bad people in the majority - we already have a demos of bad people in the minority stepping on your neck and kicking your dog no matter how unpopular it is.

There's a whole side convo here about how the ability to capture image (even moving image) in greater and greater fidelity has changed story telling where there's a cart/horse dynamic almost - if you can see all the plastic shards and steel crunching and it has dramatic impact at this point, are you obligated to do so? Why can't you let the audience fill in the details between human emotion telling you the event through them?

There's this concept of verisimilitude, the appearance of reality despite it not being reality (and all of us playing along in the audience), and then attendant surreality of trying to present this appearance of reality in all its nitty gritty detail almost down to the molecule as the point of the exercise and audience experience.

It's really bad in gaming by the way, the chase for realism within an obvious abstraction of it because the tools seemingly allow more and more fidelity of detail. Some will say it's very immersive or more immersive at which point, I must insist I am not in that audience playing games for immersive reasons, but so the ecosystem goes.

There's a good argument that cruder tools create better stories by the limits imposed requiring creativity on how to surmount those limits, where as hyper fidelity winds up being an false articulation of reality without creative story telling tapped on.

One thing I wonder about is how constantly buckling under test, or not ever facing a personal test on the whole 'Your fams wants you dead or for you to not even be you' leads to this constant grace for familial shitbirds.

I talk a lot of smack about infinite graces for people that wipe their ass with those graces but on some level, I gotta think they just don't get that blood relations are dogshit when the blood relations want you dead and for you to no longer pump blood, and yet...if you're not in the crosshairs...all this flimflam about rehabilitating and moderating your slur dropping uncle or sig heiling grandpa still lingers? LMAO, this hits way too close to home with my illfated attempt in mid 2020 to try and get an antifascist reading/working group up and going within my local DSA...

I went so far as to even ask out loud 'Do you want to just read about it or do want to be about it' and it was mostly awkward 'read about it' which actually kinda stung. I wasn't trying to get this going just so we could know...JFC.
