@swampudlian @workingclasshistory@mastodon.social Union corruption is totally a thing. WCH did a wonderful little series about how black workers had to take matters into their own hands and form their own unions to force the UAW to treat their POC workers more equally, their power quickly grew and showed that union power comes from the workers, and not the leadership. https://workingclasshistory.com/podcast/e61-the-league-of-revolutionary-black-workers-in-detroit/
wait, anarchists aren't considered "left"? Huh? I never understand these definitions and cliques. Is this another 'third position' thing? What labels do I need to apply to someone to get them to start helping those being crushed by the system, be it red, blue, green, or whatever?
Had to work with christians today. Thankfully at least these were the "express our faith through good acts" kind and not the "violently demand the extermination and subjugation of those you know and love" kind. Well, today they were, anyway.
Sometimes I don't think we make enough hay over how many of the 'militant atheists' of yesteryear became militant islamaphobes or militant antisemites without too much prodding. Some held true to loudly espousing how much christianity sucked, but even then their statements were cherry-picked to serve supremacist interests. The rest, however, followed the grifting money trail laid down before them and became tools of the right (or at least showed themselves to be problematic as all get out).
Funny how absolutists seem to flock to fascist or authoritarian thinking, isn't it.
Ooof, I would like to encourage my fellow cishet-ish colonizer-descended folx to not get up in the replies when the others are talking/discussing the issues and problems they've had with cishet colonizer-descended types and how they deal with them. We're privileged to see it and it can be a great learning experience, but I think, unless invited, we should just be wallflowers on those.
Gives off some serious "not all men" energy otherwise.
