Like, you can imagine the following pipeline:

* X is no longer being added to
* X is (in their head) no longer making money, but still costing money
* X is no longer sold
* X is no longer available, even if you paid for streaming, downloads, whatever
* X is unplayable because Y and Z components are gone forever

So, if they see X no longer being updated, then DEATH is only a few heartbeats away

I've been discussing the whole 'Is X gameline DEAD?' type bullshit over on the white wolf subreddit, and I've come to the conclusion that some of the 'X is DEAD if it hasn't had an update in Y, THIS IS DEAD' attitude may stem from people having a misplaced reaction to not owning things?

Definitely starting to think that hobbies shouldn't be entered at the bargain basement level, but more a few clicks above that.

You don't want to go the BEST AND MOST EXPENSIVE thing on the market, but going the cheapest is likely to hit you with a bunch of rando roadblocks that don't exist three dollars down the line.
