So at this point we're being led to believe Punk's backstage exchange with Tony Khan was less Bret/Vince and more Nailz/Vince? To "fear for your life" it kind of has to be at least that. #CMPunk
We witnessed it enough at media scrums - at the softest of softball questions, too: absolute horror that someone would question his misogyny, judgement, or authority. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. These billionaires in their bubbles are the biggest fucking snowflakes, who feel their shit doesn't stink and they deserve to walk on rose petals, with normal rules of life not applying to them.
So many people usually hating billionaires leapt to the defence of Tony Khan, who then beautifully proceeded to remove his mask and show them what it is they're backing here: a ghoul who for months publicly condoned conflictual locker rooms only to go on a show when he's confronted, claim he "feared for his life," and when he got booed by the fans, sat down in a chair like a petulant child. How dare anyone disagree with him, jeer him, or threaten the billionaire boss!
Khan as Vince; Page as Shawn; EVPs as the Kliq... CM Punk's career is like Bret Hart's in so many ways that it could almost be the same one in some sort of multiverse alternate timeline. And, as with that, history will slaughter so many of us who followed a corporate management narrative at the time over what was in fact essentially abuse of power and gaslighting. There will be so many embarrassed people denying they had such bad takes at the time that they'll resemble Bryan Alvarez. #CMPunk
And of course, immediate reflections on the incident from a year ago that began the trial by dirtsheet for CM Punk - but with insight many have conveniently missed (and this was recorded without knowing about Hangman chipping Punk's tooth with a chop in their title match): https://www.patreon.com/posts/87778178?utm_campaign=postshare_creator
In all seriousness, it's still sad to see the workers fighting against each other rather than together, for better rights, regulations, and conditions. Punk said long ago the MMA fighters and also the wrasslers needed to unionise but there were too many "bootlickers." The original AEW EVPs talked a good game on a union, league, or body of some kind at the company's inception, but got distracted by things like, oh, you know, having EVP contracts, likely.
Punk is probably regretting letting Adam Page get away with doing what he did to start this whole never-ending mess. He knows history, looks up to heroes, but didn't learn enough from them. Times were simpler in the 90s. When Shawn went into business for himself in a promo, making serious public accusations about Bret, Bret just kicked the shit out of him and pulled the hair out of his scalp; Shawn ran to Vince and walked out but it blew over. (Being facetious of course...but only just).
