"Aware of suffering and injustice, I, _________, am working to create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. I promise, for the benefit of all, to practice self-care, mindfulness, healing, and joy. I vow to not burn out."
Humans have thousands of languages; I wonder if other species do too? Ones that communicate verbally, like birds. Could a starling in Indonesia and a starling in France understand each other?
It's that time of year again: when people everywhere tell you how you *should* be feeling and ignore how you're *really* feeling. Do those around you a favor: dial back the performative joy and make space for those who don't feel like fiddling while the world burns down around them. #Christmas#MentalHealth#Compassion
Found my parents-in-law an independent living retirement home this week. They had been considering this for a long time, but now that the paperwork is signed this life change feels very huge and very imminent, and the emotional roller coaster is very steep. My wife and I will be doing a lot of deep downsizing so we face a less daunting task when our own time comes. #Impermanence
Saw my first #Tesla#Cybertruck yesterday and it was one of those sad moments when you realize that all the jokes and snarky comments were absolutely 100% deserved.
“Worldwide sea levels have climbed since 1900 by some 1.5 mm a year, a pace that is unprecedented in at least 3,000 years and generally attributable to melting ice sheets and glaciers... Since the middle of the 20th century the rate has gained speed, exceeding 3 mm a year since 1992. In the South the pace has quickened further, jumping from about 1.7 mm a year at the turn of the 20th century to at least 8.4 mm by 2021…” #ClimateChange#SeaLevelRise
Nice to see AP covering local elections in #Hawaii. And thankfully nothing is hidden behind a paywall (like Hawaiiʻs biggest paper The Star-Advertiser):
AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Hawaii’s state primaries
#Japan's first #ClimateChange lawsuit whose plaintiffs are exclusively young people, according to the lawyers, was filed on Aug. 6. Ranging in age from 15 to 29, the 16 individuals from across the country submitted the case at the Nagoya District Court. The aim is to stop greenhouse gas emissions hindering international climate goals.
Hello Mastodon, my name is Rob. I'm a relatively normal person but with a weird accent. I've lived in four countries, at least as many alternative universes, and countless alternative realities. I'm fascinated with all sorts of cultures, languages, music, and foods. Some folks know me as a #writer, a lay #Buddhist, a #rabbit adopter, a #vegan, or a #photographer. I'm a #survivor of childhood abuse, so support children's issues and #MentalHealth. Nice to meet you!
