@evan I think a lot more depends on how one interprets this question... "Does the open web require competitive markets?"
and I see how one can interpret that to mean monopolistic from a 'no' answer, but i think of this more as the internet to not be a place to buy and sell stuff. In fact to be a place for information and exchange of communication, in that sense then market is not needed for an open web.

@evan is there any penalty for bots that violate robots.txt?

Human verification is good practice, just stinks how shitty the internet has become and worse now cause of the way AI is developing

@evan Yes, but there should be a way to block the scraping from happening and should be the default setting on an instance.

I just want to say that I think no algorithm is the best method to social media, I love mastodon and activity pub, but i have zero addictive tendencies and love it! unlike insta and others that just keep your eyes glued. Anyway just sending love!

@evan I have been listening to Ezra lately, cause I respect him as a journalist and so far it has been the location in the NYtimes where there is more nuanced discussion, even though leaning he leans more as a soft-zionist, but being open about that.
