I’ve only been on fedi for a year and operating Tooters for even less. In that short period of time I have been doxxed twice, stalked persistently by someone since January, and now a pedophilic FireFish instance has replicated Tooters’ name, logo, rules (minus rule 11 obviously), and our server summary to troll us.

Talk about not leaving the welcome mat out for long.

Occasionally one of the instances we defederate will prompt someone to reply to our FediBlock announcement to say, “hey you know that domain is on the Oliphant blocklist you should import it to save yourself the hassle.”

It’s always fun to reply with, “we’d rather do our own homework. Importing a blocklist blindly is already dumb enough, but choosing a blocklist that includes our instance on it would be sheer idiocy.”

@eris I hope you wouldn’t feel the need to stifle yourself with me. I had never interacted with you specifically when I suspended akko. My later formed opinion of you came from WP and akko was already blocked so I didn’t think a lot of it. Then she proved herself to be a liar, and other people I trust and respect defended your honor when I asked about you later after you had DMed me. I was the only one who did anything wrong, but it was never with ill intent. You are part of the community. 💜

@admin I attempted to follow but it was never accepted. I think I’m still in the doghouse for having previously defederated the instance when tooters was being used single-user by me. But no matter, I appreciated eris making contact so we could lift the suspension.

If you are incapable of being open to the notion that you can be wrong about something and unwilling to admit when that is the case, you have no business influencing the moderation of a community.

Shutting your eyes when presented with evidence that doesn’t fit your narrative, and emphatically denying the truth defines you as a bad actor.

Calling out such behavior doesn’t signal anything about me besides the fact that I care about doing my part to ensure a safe environment on fedi.

On October 23rd we defederated the instance `kasumi.loliimoutolove.com` for violating community rule 11 of Tooters by hosting Lolicon.

While the legality of this content varies depending on the country you look at, it is federally illegal in the United States since the Protect Act (2003) added language which specifically forbids it.

Now that our blocklist is publicly available any new suspensions we enact are monitored by numerous bots that broadcast it. The owner of ^ the domain noticed… 🧵

@kittywifclaws I am really bad about making it a habit to stay in contact with people I consider friends too. I also need breaks from people, but even aside from that I am still bad about remembering to reach out to people. 🫂

@sandy know what would help prevent this being an issue? If Mastodon checked your social graph against the block list of the new instance before you migrate.

@eris I appreciate you contacting when you did as well. Honestly when tooters started it was just me on the instance. I had no following relationships with anyone on disqordia when I received the harassment so I blocked the domain not caring at the time, treating it as a personal block list. Obviously it’s more than just me here now, and I’m glad we revisited it. Had zero to do with .art, but I’m glad you came across threads where we were discussing it. Thank you, eris :victor:

Eugen @Gargron, what do you think is the next best step to take regarding these type of new sign-ups? SMTP blocking helps a lot, but the only currently reasonable solution seems to be geographically based 🇻🇳🇮🇳🇨🇳…allowing for immediate onboarding is essential so request to join is simply a bandage.
