@ablatedsprocket It is a different, entirely incompatible language ... you cannot write a trivial(!) program in #Lisp, and have it run in #Scheme. To the point, why is #Javascript not a #C dialect?
@neurovagrant This reminds me of discussions at work ... prefixing or transmutating words so that the contain "AI". I wish I could call sick for a year ....
@ablatedsprocket I've never heard anyone say that #Emacs#Lisp was a "subset" of #CommonLisp, seeing that #EmacsLisp pre-dates #CL, and comes from a entirely different branch of #Lisp, namely #MACLISP. Lisp is indeed a family of languages, but Scheme is not part of it.
For those not in the known, @contrarian@mstdn.plus has been harassing and bullying respected community members within the #FOSS#FLOSS#FreeSoftware#OpenSource community.
When people say "no politics" -- most often than not they mean "no off-topic garbage". In #FreeSoftware projects, that means .. we talk about software, and technical stuff -- not other crap, if you want to talk about other crap, you can do somewhere else. Discussions unrelated to the topic .. are off-topic.
@danirabbit@lukeshu I don't know what other people think, what annoys me occasionally, is that how people bring in their other political issues (with whatever genuine positive intentions they have) is very much USA-centric, sometimes specifically USA-cultural-hegemonist.
As a non-US citizen who never went there, it is a bit offensive when people expect that I should have the same political priorities as Americans.
@nicemicro it’s extremely necessary division. When these folks complain about “politics” what they always mean is that they don’t want marginalized people to participate openly and safely. We can’t build healthy diverse communities and include people who are against equality and human rights. Supremacists are of no value
@lukeshu While there are for sure bad faith actors in this space, I think when people complain about "politics in free software", they actually mean "politics other than the politics about free software".
I believe that it is possible to have a wide range of political persuasions that lets you derive the computing freedoms. Or, you can be just simply selfish and want to get these freedoms for yourself.
@ocdtrekkie Try contacting the sponsors, specially if you have a personal or business connections -- ask them to drop out, and demand that the @osi release the results. #FOSS#FLOSS#OpenSource#FreeSoftware
