imagine ur a 9-13 yr old boy or someone that's interpolated as one by society, and you have access to the internet and you're constantly hearing about war of the sexes bullshit like "all men are x." u think it matters that you have all this feminist theory context around it? yeah, I'm sure lil' "Timmy" (if that is indeed whom they are) was reading feminist theory in the womb and is all caught up on how to contextualize the shit "he" hears.

I grew up with my grandma bashing men all the time around me since I was little and presumably seen as a boy. its clear to me what people were implicitly saying by bashing men as a whole right in front of me, while telling me its who I am and will be: you're going to grow up to be a terrible person. It's why while I'm not going to stop ya, as, being an adult, I have more context to understand where that comes from and know it says more about the person saying it and their experiences than it does about me (and also I have the new benefit in *not living under that signifier in certain spaces*), I am definitely gonna ignore and not engage in it. if you're hoping to bond with me by pulling the war of the sexes bs, outside of saying something legitimately funny or insightful, it's not gonna happen. I'm gonna sit there and stare at you the same way I'd stare at somebody making an awkward racial joke that doesn't land, and move on to more important conversations like why you keep centering men when trying to be a "girl's girl."

Done with meal planning my lunch for the rest of the week, if my two batches of pasta even last that long. Hopefully they do!

I still remember when people would complain about "fragmentation" in the Android market as a "problem." I mean, maybe it was in similar ways to how having a gajillion Linux distros as options can be a "problem" for a regular user. But honestly, since the beginning I have hated this complaint because guess what. Android is now "less fragmented" but that has only made it easier in the long-run for anti-consumer decisions to be made. This is a trade-off in my mind and I'd rather alienate regular users than make it easier for business to enforce a monopoly or oligopology on the firmware market. If a user prefers the opposite, they can go somewhere else. I say this as someone who now owns an iPhone btw. I just don't believe everything needs to always cater to everyone. I do think we should improve accessibility more generally, but to me that is a separate consideration from "streamlining" people's consumption or consumer choices.

In sum, the freeloader problem in the context of work and production seems very real, but the concept of "freeloading" in a consumer market makes absolutely no sense. It's just consumers paying it forward for other consumers. This is a non-problem conjured in order to justify companies polluting the internet airwaves with noise, and for those rentiering via platform-provision to feel like they are solving a real problem rather than just capturing the commons to make money, whenever they attempt to paywall or lock people out.

When I look at the pro-advertisement or advertisement-neutral arguments online, I find it hard not to think that there is this pernicious assumption that its more important that there be a monetary barrier to entry for accessing material than that people who make or produce the material get paid decently. There's even almost a kind of pretense that these are the same thing when they are not. It's like if it's not 100% of the audience for a stream or video paying for the stream or video, than the, lets say, 10-50% not paying are freeloaders and need to be made to pay. Even if the revenue from the other 50-90% of the audience is enough to maintain the show. The whole point of the economy *is* for the sake of consumption (this is not a pro-hyperconsumption take btw, I'm just saying the *economy* is for consumers), so its weird to factor in "collateral consumption" as a cost just because it isn't entered into monetary circulation. This only makes sense if growth is your eternal imperative, as then it would indeed be realistic to assess the inability to incorporate people into a market as a cost or loss. It also only make sense if you're a landlord (metaphorical or otherwise) and you're worried about maximizing your assets' "financial efficiency."
