@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs There's something dreadfully USian about our attitudes to dogs it seems. This in particular is shouting "Comply or you will be punished!" which never bothers to explain why you're being punished at all.

@asterism @ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs There is a large number of people that assume pets are mindless, thoughtless, often even emotionless. Which is why they're perfectly happy abandoning or euthanizing them when they're no longer entertaining or a good status symbol.

On one level, cis people wearing pronoun and "trans rights" buttons doesn't do much but try to shift the Overton Window...

...but on the other hand I really want to see it anyways.

Every time I read of a fedi instance shutdown, I keep remembering my thought of:

Keep your instance small.
Don't throw open the doors.

Yes, this is contradictory, but if instance owners don't set limits, instance owners burn out.

It's the same for work as it is for passion projects.
