»Under the cover of the war, Mawasi, which was mostly farmland or sand dunes, has become a vast encampment crowded with hundreds of thousands of people living in the harshest conditions. UN estimates that around 30,000 people/km² live there. The dispossessed suffer from shortages of clean water & food, sanitary problems & a lack of proper shelter. An estimated 1,000 tents & thousands of mattresses, blankets & other critical supplies were swept out to sea in the first winter storm 2 weeks ago.«
»The [Israeli] strikes in Mawasi are different in character from the bombings in urban areas. Rather than destroying buildings – from which dust-covered, panicked wounded are pulled – strikes on Mawasi involve huge bombs that leave giant craters in the dunes. There are some reports of people completely disappearing due to the intensity of the explosion and the lack of shelter that could protect against the bombings.«
»We Give Them 48 Hours to Leave': Israel's Plans to Transfer Gazans Go Back 60 Years. In the 1960s and 1970s, left-wing governments of #Israel proposed plans to 'thin' the population of the #Gaza Strip. A perusal of the minutes of meetings reveals that their ideas don't differ much from those of today's far-right government«
»"A human life in the Gaza Strip is worth less than the lives of the thousands of stray dogs that roam the area looking for food. While there is a clear order prohibiting shooting dogs unless a soldier is in real danger when the dog's jaws are locked on him, humans are permitted to be shot without any real restrictions."«
>>The scope of violence revealed in the testimonies – carried out in plain sight, andsometimes recorded – makes it clear that the abuse cannot be explained only as apersonal vendetta by soldiers or a flaw in the system. It shows that this violence is the outcome of a systematic, longstanding policy of oppression, expulsion and dispossession that is at the very core of the Israeli apartheid regime<<
>>At least 66 people were killed in an attack early on Thursday that hit a residential neighbourhood in Beit Lahiya, in Gaza’s besieged north, Palestinian health officials said.<<
>>Separately on Thursday, at least 22 people, including 10 children, were killed in Israeli bombardment of #Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, a civil defence spokesman said.<<
>>Satellite Photos Show: #Gaza's Largest Refugee Camp in Near-total Ruins.
The photos show a devastated #Jabalya, with the Israeli military appearing to be systematically leveling what buildings remain.
The refugee camp thought to be Gaza's largest has been almost totally destroyed by Israeli military activity, recently published satellite photos of Jabalya showed.<<
>>According to Gazans still in the area or who were able to return for a short time, the refugee camp has recently experienced unprecedented levels of destruction and loss of life. During the most recent Israeli attacks, hundreds of complexes consisting of dozens of homes each were destroyed. Also destroyed were schools and medical centers. Essential infrastructure for water, electricity and sanitation is no longer functioning.<<
>>Reports from Jabalya say Israeli airstrikes and ground combat have been concentrated on very dense residential areas, including centers run by UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. The satellite photos show buildings that have been leveled down to their foundations. Many residents have fled, but sources in rescue teams say there are between hundreds and thousands of dead beneath the ruins.<<
>>The UN announced yesterday that Israel has blocked or obstructed all attempts to deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to the northern #Gaza Strip throughout November<<
>>“Our colleagues in OCHA report that none of the 41 attempts to reach Palestinians in besieged areas of northern Gaza with life-saving assistance this month has been facilitated by the Israeli authorities.”<<
