Just completed “Tidings of Unknown Skies,” a frolic on my website, Wildfrolics.
Featuring: trains, desert, rock formations, remote outposts, a castle, ritual offerings, old gods, junipers, bare feet, the Moon, ravens, the Sun, cacti, inadvertent acupuncture, tent camping, wide-open skies, deer, and blossoms from dust
“Sometimes brain fog gave me permission to rest and say no to multitasking. . . . I’ve written more music and poetry than I ever have in my life. Not being able to do much linear intellectual work created new space to do more non-linear creative work, which has brought incredible joy to my life. I’ve spent many more hours cuddling with my daughter, an activity that neither requires nor is improved by mental clarity or physical energy.”
“There are certainly those who would love to build homes and private estates up here . . . . But Save the Redwoods League . . . intend[s] to acquire, restore, and permanently protect this 1,624-acre property . . . .
“. . . Collectively, we can preserve . . . the ancestral home of the Kashia people. We can reconnect wildlife habitat . . . secure an extraordinary redwood landscape for . . . future visitors and . . . the 2 million people who live near . . . .”
What’s a good app for finding lodging these days, if Airbnb and Booking.com are out? I’m looking for low-cost accommodations; can be wacky as long as they’re safe.
Ignorant Yank here, genuinely curious: I thought everything on the island(s) of Britain (not Ireland) was British, with England, Scotland, and so on being parts of Britain (and “English” pertaining only to the England part) . . . ? If British doesn’t include Scottish, is there a name for all the peoples of the island(s) of Britain?
“Animator, illustrator, and director Jenny Wright was midway through her university studies at Central Saint Martin’s College in London when her mother died. . . . She transmuted her grief . . . into a soulful animated short film . . . which became her graduation thesis. Simple, tenderly expressive line drawings unspool a complex, inexpressible universe of feeling as this deeply personal memorial unlatches the floodgates to a universal human emotion.”
“Most Americans take their sovereignty for granted—the nation’s right to make its own laws and govern its own people. The same rights we recognize in other sovereign nations, with one glaring exception—the Native nations and tribes who were here first.”
“What if the chat you avoid having could help resolve a problem in your relationship, or clarify an area of disagreement? What if it wouldn’t be nearly as rough as you expect? . . . Nicholas Epley, a psychologist at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and his colleagues have repeatedly found that sit-down conversations—even ones about seemingly touchy subjects—often end up being more positive experiences than people anticipate.”
Could anybody use a writer to team up with on an endeavor that makes the world a better place? I’ve got an MA in Writing (from the National University of Ireland, Galway, with first-class honors) and am cobbling together a livelihood that feels good. I’ve done many kinds of writing and editing but mainly write creative nonfiction these days. I like to work by natural rhythms rather than deadlines, as I believe we do our best work when guided by our proclivities.
Just completed “More Than Imagined,” a frolic on my website, Wildfrolics.
Featuring: basketweaving, cats, doorways, a baby dragon, the Moon, a longhorn beetle, bare feet, slugs, a dog, milkweed fluff, oyster crackers, a bowling ball, a wart, my tent in the woods, and a censored image
This course changed my life. I highly recommend it to anyone it at all appeals to.
“Animism is the practice of loving and respecting our greater family—mountains and rivers, plants and animals, stones and stars, the living and the dead. . . .
“We endeavor to return to conscious connection because it’s good for us, because this supports our work for systemic change and cultural repair, and because it’s more honest. We’ve never been and will never be truly alone.”
Follow requests welcome! Screening for vibe check. If you’re uplifting, funny, or solution-oriented, that’ll probably do it.I live partly in a woodland tent and partly in an off-grid tiny home, and frolic across forest and shore and sometimes desert. I fave and boost a LOT.Most posts delete after two months.
