I hope it actually redownloads stuff. The problem could be that the image url of the post that I had a problem with in the past just changed, because maybe the servers storage url changed...

You can set a retention period for cached media in your server settings, like this:

The problem is not deleting files. That works flawlessly. The problem is that mastodon does not fetch images from remote posts that were deleted, but are needed again. At least it did not in some cases I noticed. Thats why I do not have this command running as a cron job anymore.

I just saw, that fedidb now has data for the biggest fediverse accounts, so I did a little plotting with it.
Here is a graphic of the scattering of the 100 biggest accounts by the instance they are on.
