We're going to hear a lot about failure of deterrence over the coming months. It's going to be used to justify arms races all over the world. Israel will be behind closed doors asking if their barbarity has re-established the deterrence lost on Oct 7th, Iran will see the line of having the material but not a weapon has failed, "might is right" is the only doctrine. The west lost a lot of prestige in Ukraine and Russia will conclude their nukes did act to deter the west.

Can we please not have world war 3 this week? Or ever? I remain pretty sure that the vast majority of people don't actually want this. I'm reminded of the quote from M.A.S.H. that "War is worse than hell because everyone in hell did something to deserve to be there, in war, except for some of the brass, almost no one did"

@Homebrewandhacking @grayface_ghost Something like that, or expanding capacity along existing routes, or building a new line to a more general purpose specification greatly simplifying the engineering and design elements and allowing more scope for the scheme to be connected with the existing network. I'm no expert on rail the rail network but it's always seemed to me HS2 is as much a "Britain can Make it!" political project as it is an actual fucking railway.
