Free Press now has an advocacy wing, Free Press Action. My team at DevCollaborative worked with them to launch a website for it at https://www.freepressaction.org/
We built it in Drupal and integrated it with ActionKit.
They do great work, including being coalition leaders that - kicked Trump off Twitter and Facebook - massively expanded broadband - secured funding for local journalism in New Jersey
@ntnsndr I've really appreciated the company I work for for having similar values. We're intentionally small and it allows us to stay ethical and down-to-earth.
There's real value in knowing what "enough" is and then embracing that.
I gathered with a friend to mourn and organize in response to the current violence in Israel and Palestine. We used the Beautiful Trouble deck our anti-zionist Jewish priestess friend Rae Abileah co-designed to brainstorm ideas.
The first set of cards we pulled were meant to be. An artistic vigil rooted in intersectionality, aimed at activating international mechanisms.
My friend is an art teacher and the repeated call by the UNCRC and many others for a #CeasefireNow guides our work. 1/
@ntnsndr I like that idea. Move the discussion and voting to where the people are already at. Showcasing out democratic deliberations to the rest of the fediverse might inspire other instances to do the same.
I love the story arc of meet.coop, which is an #OpenSource cooperatively-run video conferencing tool.
- try to find a sustainable business model - fail to reach sustainability - responsibly share the bad news to members - give members ample time to prepare - different coop (WEBTV) offers to maintain meet.coop - thoughtful transition is made - meet.coop lives on!
The FTC is going after Amazon for its deceptive and coercive tactics getting people signed up for Amazon Prime and making it ridiculously difficult to leave.
This is spot on. I was involved in Indymedia back and those two challenges: lack of resources to maintain the tech and weak editorial policy was our downfall.
So encouraging to see new alternative media models learning those lessons. I hope the Mutu model spreads the way you're hoping it does in the UK.
If you are trying to make a living as an open source maintainer and you'd like healthcare and benefits through that work, the Open Source Collective is starting to "hire" maintainers, so you can do so!
