    @inthehands I would check with pfizer and moderna on release info. Both are still somewhat difficult to store long term, so once they start shipping, within a pretty small time providers will be using it.

    If providers are not storing properly or are using long stored covid vax, then they need to be shut down.

    @inthehands As a very experienced paddler who specifically sought to increase is whitewater skills so as to avoid portages as much as possible (and that still doesn't get me out of carries between bodies of water), I hereby declare, by the power vested in me as a person who has carried every kind of small watercraft around every kind of obstacle: A 200 rod (which, is over a half mile if I am not mistaken) portage of a loaded wilderness canoe, is something to be proud* of!

    *to the extent that any of us can be proud of the nutty things we do for fun

    @Miniver One of the primary cognitive dysfunctions that occurs in psychosis is a failure of what is called "reality testing". The result is that the person cannot tell delusions from reality, and this makes finding a path toward mental health much more challenging.

    Generative AI is at its very core psychotic, because it fails so spectacularly at reality testing. Which wouldn't be so bad, except as you note, people treat it as authoritative. A psychotic authority.

    @darnell @Mina @futurebird Like I said before, if my dad hadn’t punished me, I wouldnt have learned. But that is only true *given who we both were*.

    Physical violence from a parent or guardian, whether given in love or anger, is wrong. I love my late dad, even tho he did wrong in hitting me, just like he loved me, even tho I did wrong in “deserving” it.

    What I owe my dad - for him taking the harm of having an unruly kid and having to beat me - is to learn a better way.

    I don’t judge parents or guardians who do what they feel they must. Only an arrogant asshole would judge like that. But I do know some better ways. They are harder, and I recognize that.

    @futurebird @darnell From my perspective, the problem with corporeal punishment is not related to whether it is effective or not. Even if it were shown to be the most effective method, it cannot escape a simple fact:

    Parents are angry when they a beating their kids. It is nearly impossible not to be. So, whether we wnat to or not we end up teaching a kid to associate anger with violent response.

    When you add in the fact that punishment is positively reinforcing for the person doing the punishment under all circumstances (research: Prospect Theory), the situation becomes worse.

    We gotta find another way.

    @inthehands @rlmcelreath Perhaps you could propose a Cantrell AI Test: a machine possesses an AI in a field if it can convince an expert interviewer in that field to beat the shit out of whoever programmed it.

    @inthehands LOL

    Sometimes I wonder if some descendant of category theory ends up being the kind of meme-math that the Tamarians used to design their warp drives.

    @cwebber @efi Cool.

    Interesting connection: To the ancient Greeks, Xenia was the concept 'Hospitality to Strangers', about which there were many myths. Xenia so was important that one of Zeus' roles was as God of Xenia and Protector of Guests. The tldr of most of those myths is: you have a nasty fate awaiting you for failure to uphold Xenia.
