@Gargron It really depends on the size of the instance 😉. The data growth is definitely something worth keeping an eye on. In the future, it might be possible to clean up older entries if needed. For now, though, this is very helpful for me to track potential issues and to provide explanations for why something didn’t show up as expected.
After a round of testing and tweaks, a new version of #Vernissage has been deployed to vernissage.photos! 🎉
This update adds a new feature for authors and moderators: the ability to view ActivityPub events. Now you can easily check where a specific event, like creating, updating, or liking a post, was sent. If everything works smoothly, the official release will go live before the weekend, and we’ll move on to the next exciting items in the queue. 🚀
Another Sunday means it’s time for a quick recap of what’s been added to #Vernissage over the past week: ✨ Edit statuses in Vernissage ✨ Send updates via ActivityPub ✨ Apply incoming updates from other servers
Unfortunately, there are still some issues with updates not being properly delivered to Mastodon (it works fine with Pixelfed). Next week will be dedicated to fixing and improving this functionality.
@silverpill Thank you very much for the feedback. I’m not yet familiar with how to use and define these extensions. From what I understand, I can use the standard “location” and add an additional element “schema:addressCountry” (which is defined here: https://schema.org/). Would this approach be more compliant with ActivityPub standards?
I wrote a short piece of documentation today describing the ActivityPub protocol extensions that Vernissage introduces. They’re strictly focused on photos, and other photo‑centric platforms (and not only those) are welcome to use them. You can find the description here: https://joinvernissage.org/ns#
Financial report for March 2025. Two new machines added for background tasks + Amazon CloudFront (CDN) is live! S3 storage hit 160 GB (~480k photos). Big thanks for all the support - this project runs without any company behind it, just me and your help. Couldn’t do it without you! ❤️🙌
For everyone interested in the future functionalities being gradually introduced to Vernissage, here is the roadmap: https://github.com/orgs/VernissageApp/projects/2. Please note that it does not include everything. In the meantime, libraries need to be updated to the latest versions, critical bugs must be fixed, and other ongoing tasks addressed. However, it provides a general outline of the plan for the coming months.
Please keep in mind that everything in Vernissage is created in my free time after work (and after my own photography walks) and funded entirely out of my own pocket. So, if you enjoy the app even a little, use it, and would like to help, consider buying me a proverbial coffee once a month. If you have technical skills, you’re always welcome to contribute to the app’s development (the code is on GitHub). Thanks in advance 💕! https://www.patreon.com/Vernissage
It would be great to receive feedback on any features that are currently missing or could be improved in the existing version of the system. My goal is to develop the system slowly and carefully, ensuring that no untested or unnecessary functionality is introduced ad-hoc. This feedback would also help me prioritize future tasks.
Vernissage, the iOS Pixelfed client, has been successfully renamed to Impressia. Following the update, you will notice the new name, new icons, and several bug fixes 😊.
For updates and news related to the application, please follow the Impressia account. This account will provide information regarding the Vernissage web application (which is separate Fediverse platform). https://mastodon.social/@impressia/112868421654501153
@dansup When I start working on it, I will definitely contact you. Currently, all my projects have slowed down because I have started further studies and they consume a lot of time and energy.
@dansup I think so too. That was the easier part. It will be harder to change in the code (and in the AppStore 🤔). And I need to prepare a whole new set of cool icons. I wouldn't have been able to do it in the past, today with AI anyone can be a super graphic designer 😎.
The survey is over. I like your choice very much 🤩. Now I have to think everything over again and will let you know about the changes soon. Thank you very much ☺️. https://mastodon.social/@vernissage/112324530712549355
New version is available in the App Store. New settings has been added and you can enable showing boosted statuses on you timeline. On the iPhone duplicated statuses are limited, on other devices timeline looks exactly like on the Pixelfed web site.
Unfortunately there is a bug in the Pixelfed API and favourited/boosted/bookmarked icons are not set correctly on the status details screen. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
What is Vernissage? Vernissage is a simple and intuitive Pixelfed client that is focused on showcasing and sharing photos. With Vernissage, you can browse through a timeline that is dedicated to photos only. This means that you won't find any other types of media in the app, so you can focus solely on discovering and enjoying beautiful photography.
Vernissage is an open-source photo-sharing platform compatible with ActivityPub, making it accessible from other Fediverse systems such as Mastodon and Pixelfed. Designed with a focus on photography, Vernissage offers features specifically tailored for photographers who wish to share their photos.
