Ah, yes, the old "everyone's a little autistic"... No. That's just flat-out false. In fact, it's around one in 31 people who very clearly, *obviously* are wired very differently from everyone else - and usually suffer a lot of abuse because of it, mostly beginning in early childhood, often resulting in severe, life-long mental health issues. If you can't relate to that at all - there's a good chance you're a neurotypical person and being part of the issue.

Depending on where you are (and possibly personal safety considerations), there's a good chance of 7 and 8 being swapped... It's certainly the case for me, simply because getting an adult diagnosis takes forever.

That sounds more like an issue with visual/text processing than imagination. To be clear, I'm actually a fairly good speed reader. As long as I'm reasonably alert and focused, I can fully process a page worth of 11pt text in about 5-15 seconds, depending on the complexity - I'm not reading individual words at that speed. It's really hard to explain... I just know what's on the page, but don't ask me to spot spelling errors.

As I said, much easier said than done... I don't know that there's a good answer and I seriously doubt anyone can fully escape what's going on around the US right now. All I'm saying is - if you can step away to recover a bit, take the opportunity. This is going to outlast you otherwise.

This goes far beyond mathematics. It's an issue in almost every field I have any serious interest in and I see no reason it should be any different elsewhere. Teaching effectively is *hard*. LLMs promise to do for the student what their teachers all too often don't - explain complex matters in terms they can understand, at a pace they can follow.
