@thomasfuchs Really? I mean, I know transformers are relatively simple things, but that feels *too* cheap. Then again, the average NA outlet is rated for 15 or 20A, so I guess itt doesn't need to be that beefy a transformer anyway 🤔
@thomasfuchs Oh boy. I wish I had a step-up transformer that would let me run UK electronics on my Canadian 110v power. I mostly play the NES version of Elite because it's the easiest to get up and running in an emulator, without having to figure out where tf the F0 key is lol
As far as vim and neovim, I'm sure @RL_Dane and @benjaminhollon already have you plenty covered down below. Linux thoroughbreds, and delightful conversationalists.
@al3x There's an entire Jazz instance! Jazztodon.com, there's also a fellow who I've followed for a good long while who does a regular show spinning records of all kinds. Not always strictly jazz, but definitely jazz adjacent. Depending on the kind of jazz you're into, it may very well appeal to you. Gimme a sec, and I'll find the @ (these things were shorter back in the bird site days lol)
@sotolf@benjaminhollon@RL_Dane@al3x I know the day will come, but muscle memory is worth a lot, and Sublime and I go way back. That being said, the more time I spend working for extended periods on multiple files at a time over SSH... yeah, it may very well become vim time.
I recently worked on a project where it was that for a couple days straight, and nano wore on me very quickly, and micro was better, but wow, those default keybindings were clearly designed in a vacuum...
@resuna@RL_Dane@sotolf@benjaminhollon@al3x There was a time when figuring out what it did was more obvious, because it always did it's proscribed function. It's become more and more common to encounter applications that don't respond to the context menu key at all, when focused on a UI element that does in fact have a context menu.
Part of the problem is that both desktop and laptop keyboards have been omitting them for years. I don't think they were ever an Apple thing anyway. The other...
@resuna@RL_Dane@sotolf@benjaminhollon@al3x ...factor that's making it even worse is the ever increasing volume of software that's not using WinUI or QT or whatever native framework. That doesn't mean that the context menu key doesn't work there, but I've seen it not function in the strangest places lately. I had to disqualify WPS office for it and reinstall a Windows VM.
@RL_Dane@resuna@sotolf@benjaminhollon@al3x I'm going to stay out of it this time, other than to say that I have 4 Excel windows open across 2 monitors running in a Win8.1 VM on Fedora, because in spite of my stance on running Windows, I spent the last couple months without Excel, trialling alternatives, and ended up right where I started (except now with the added suffering of Win8).
Sidenote: why did I ever use VirtualBox? VMware has been far less painful.
@sotolf@RL_Dane@benjaminhollon Yeah, I'm the same way. My girlfriend's sister decided it was time for a career change, and just finished her first semester of engineering school. The first month or so, she was coming to me for homework help. I had to warn her to enjoy it while it lasts, because she probably wasn't going to get more than a couple weeks more before she knew more than me.
@sotolf@RL_Dane@benjaminhollon I find Italians pretty easy to get along with on account of they seem to enjoy feeding me large servings of carbs and cheese ? well that and I'm Italian on both sides, but I'm definitely more Canadian than anything, lol.
They liked to tell us in school that French would be useful one day, but I can probably count the number of francophones I've spoken to for more than a few words on my fingers. Hindu or urdu...
@sotolf@RL_Dane@benjaminhollon ...would probably be handy, but then again, I've met hundreds of people from India and Pakistan, and maybe like... 1 or 2 that didn't speak English?
Monocultures are boring but having a language that's damn near universal sure is convenient.
