I think probably the best summation of Less Wrong guys and longetermists and such is they've spent a lot of time reading science fiction and they believe this makes them the smartest people in the room

I feel like probably 90% of the bad things about capitalism come directly from treating houses as investments and not places where people live

an event I have burned into my brain from when I was like 12 is my stepmom throwing a fit because some black family moved into her condominium complex

according to her this was totes not about her being racist (I have serious doubts about that ofc) but because she was afraid the banks were trying to block bust her precious neighborhood

anyway ever since then I've realized home ownership takes people to some really fucked up places

also I kind of figured the laissez faire attitude towards weird lolicon shit was never gonna mesh well with English speaking instances

privatization is a funny concept because you have free market guys explaining how politicians handing out exclusive government contracts to their bros is more efficient and produces better results somehow

anyhow privatization was literally created by Hitler

@mekkaokereke honestly I think a lot of the mentality that lawyers are evil was pushed by big businesses who don't like the idea that there is a mechanism in place to punish them if they break laws

it's died down a lot now but I remember when we were all being pushed the idea of how this country is over litigious and we needed tort reform to curb frivolous lawsuits and then it turned out like the hot coffee lady and other such cases were misrepresented by the press
