@nixCraft Speculation I’ve seen points more to Mozilla potentially worrying that after this antitrust case that’s ongoing, Google may not be able to pay other companies (Mozilla, Apple, etc.) to be the default search engine. So potentially more seeing that the money might dry up
@chongliss@lindhartsen@GossiTheDog As long as you have a Pro version, use the local group policy to turn it off (that’s how I disabled Copilot). Group policies are the only settings they actually fully respect, since they’re the same settings that server admins use to make their machines comply with legal or financial regulations etc., and they can’t piss those users off that much!
@Wabbit@aral It doesn’t matter if an instance federates with threads - like any other instance, if you want to block the whole instance, the option is in the ‘…’ menu on any post from threads.net. You have the power to decide for yourself.
@lrhodes@jerry I guess it’s a recognition that it’s probably mostly a small but very vocal minority who are extremely against federating with Threads? Likely many regular users don’t really care that much…
Kind of like how I don’t like what Google does with respect to privacy, but I wouldn’t want my email provider to block me from sending or receiving email to/from Gmail accounts…
@NewtonMark I hate how they still use the “quote the lie in the headline” method which means people who don’t bother to click on the article might think it sounds true…
The headline should be more like “Reinhart’s claim is wrong - federal taxation revenue from mining does not cover the salaries of all of Australia's police, teachers and nurses“
@aral Could malicious compliance be an option if this goes through? Like the page loads, but a big banner is displayed in the browser informing the user that an unsafe CA is being used which probably means that the web use is being directly surveilled?
@GossiTheDog I only have one Windows machine (mostly Mac and Linux at home) but I swear I’m eventually going to have to set up a Samba AD DC on a Raspberry Pi to shut Windows up about attaching an account and to be able to push group policy that disables all the tracking!
I’m an electronics/software engineer and consultant, mostly working in satellite/terrestrial wireless communications. Very interested in climate, green tech, sustainability etc. I also love speciality coffee, photography and music!
