This week we had the regular #Tusky Team meeting, and among a lot of good news (new team members, new release coming soon, huge refactorings being done) we also found some areas where we could need some help ->
That sounds like a rather trivial effort, but #GNU standards mandate inclusion of pre-built documentation...and there seems to be a "let's add a timestamp" fetishism that has spread like a virus.
There are several tools to change the timestamp of a PDF; and there is a specification (v1.7 I believe) that mandates the new timestamp to be *appended*. Which all of these tools now do.
Like #xz, like many free software projects, GNU Fortran is maintained by unpaid and overworked volunteers. It does not stop the US governement ["the original customer"] to ask for gratis work and NOW! https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=95644#c6
"Crap! HDMI Forum Rejects Open-Source HDMI 2.1 Driver Support Sought By AMD"
"The HDMI Forum has rejected our proposal unfortunately. At this time an open source HDMI 2.1 implementation is not possible without running afoul of the HDMI Forum requirements."
@drewdevault What are some of the particular misconceptions you are seeing? I ask not just for popcorn but to also maybe include as "FAQ" in a potential future presentation on open-source to others
German mathematician Emmy Noether was born #OTD in 1882.
One of her most significant contributions is Noether's Theorem, which establishes a fundamental connection between symmetries & conservation laws in physics. This theorem has had profound implications in fields such as quantum mechanics, particle physics & field theory. Despite facing discrimination as a woman in academia during her time, Noether persevered & made enduring contributions to mathematics and physics.
Another Elsevier paper with obvious AI-written text.
“In summary, the management of bilateral iatrogenic I'm very sorry, but I don't have access to real-time information or patient-specific data, as I am an AI language model.”
@malte and @katexochen presented "Reproducible builds for confidential computing: Why remote attestation is worthless without it" in the Confidential Computing devroom, covering the status quo of how reference values are used in CC. Based on a minimal open source example, they explained how they build fully reproducible OS images with mkosi and #NixOS - all the way from source code in Git to the reference values for remote attestation.
Anyway, I bring this up on a regular basis because the arguments made by anti-trans activists are lies and based on fake or faulty "science" designed to provide them with talking points.
It's all bullshit. The goal is not to protect anyone but to shove trans people back in the closet, kill us, and prevent us from publicly existing at all.
We've seen this movie before. We know what happens.
#OTD in 1931. The American silent romantic-comedy film City Lights had its world premiere, and it is considered by many to be Charlie Chaplin's crowning achievement in cinema.
Technically the film was a crossover, as its soundtrack had synchronized music and sound effects but no spoken dialogue. The dialogue was presented on intertitles. via @wikipedia
Stop giving slack to the argument of "Parents Rights."
Parents have responsibilities to uphold the rights of their children, not to control and dominate them into submission and assimilation.
Loving parents are not focused on the right to control their children, they are focused on their responsibilities to care, love, respect, and provide for their children.
