    I don't get how you can say this in Nostr and not on Twitter. Why not "be present" on Twitter and try to make it better from there instead of exiting to Nostr?

    Shouldn't it be a separate event kind? People who don't care about emojis shouldn't be downloading kind:0 events with thousands of emoji tags.

    Without a (very untrustworthy) algorithm to surface content Nostr should still work fine as people reply to some note and the conversation pops up on our feed again and again.

    If clients are showing "replies" but only root posts that capability is lost (I don't have any client in mind as I write this, by the way).

    Benchmarking Nostr event parsing in JavaScript ("leaner" means a very simple and performant binary format):

    If these results are right (I'm not sure they are) that means JavaScript is very not-great-at-all dealing with binary things and if Nostr events were designed to be binary from the get go that would entail a massive performance loss for web, react-native and JavaScript clients of all sorts.

    (Recently I've been thinking that Nostr could survive having some aggregators and whatnot, but conscious effort must be made to not make them irreplaceable or absolutely necessary for the network to function.)

    My concern was that there were two ways of doing the same thing and supporting both would just double the work for everybody, so we had to pick one.

    The /.well-known/nostr.json HTTP request is better because

    1. a single provider can host infinite names
    2. it's still simple and free to host a static site once you have your own domain
    3. it could be expanded with more metadata if necessary

    Web support was a thing but I've implemented it with DoH which was good enough before deciding to switch to the HTTP.
