I have received threats against my life for my solidarity with land defenders. One of my friends, an elderly Haudenosaunee woman, was sitting by a fire when she was shot at by police. The violence is systemic and must end.

Today is Red Dress Day, in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous people. In Canada, Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are six times more likely to be murdered than their non-Indigenous counterparts.

@ahltorp @TransitBiker @canleaf @ABScientist @josh how can I better prepare to enter a medical facility where there are infected people and I am unable to wear a mask for the medical treatment I require? I’m fully vaccinated, use an antiviral spray in my nose, and propolis spray in my throat. I also do my best to be the first appointment of the day, which minimizes my exposure. But that’s all I know how to do.

@TransitBiker @canleaf @ABScientist @josh I wish this were the case but it is not. Most of my medical care professionals aren’t masking anymore. I had to go for an endoscopy, and I asked my attending medical workers to please wear masks as I am high risk. They refused. I finally caught COVID for the first time in October at a dentist appointment. My dentist wasn’t wearing a mask until I asked him to. At my last dentist appointment, I realized halfway through a filling that the dental assistant was sick. She was only wearing one of those crappy surgical masks. I really hope I don’t catch whatever she had. She had a cough and sniffles. Even a common cold sometimes ends me up in the hospital. I hate that I have to put my life at risk in order to obtain medical care.

I always considered myself lucky because I knew kids who were raised in tents or heaped up cardboard boxes. But I never ever want to live in such close quarters again. Cabin fever is real.

I was a houseless child. Several years of my childhood were spent living in campers and travel trailers, moving from one rural/remote community to another while my dad chased jobs which never lasted. We lived in campgrounds or squatted out in the bush. We lived off grid for several years. Dad even made a septic tank system out of an old deep freeze, and we got our power from a generator. We used hurricane lamps instead of electricity, and got our water from local springs or village wells. I lived all over the Atlantic provinces and British Columbia, going from school to school and rarely making friends. I don’t know anyone aside from my own sister who had a similar childhood.

I thought this would be the year when I finally got to harvest my corn. I waited one day too long. I hope it was delicious, rodents. #corn #GlassGemCorn

@Toastie yes! I’ve also seen a horrendous amount of BQ nonsense directed at Black Indigenous people. A lot of decolonization needs to be done.

@Toastie weirdly, the most problems I’ve had re. BQ are other Indigenous people who give me the third degree. My mixed background is so complicated I don’t know how to figure out percentages. BQ has caused so much in-fighting, and I hate it so much.
