Over the last 8 days, we accomplished something extraordinary: we held the first tech-workers strike in the nation, ran one of the first and largest remote pickets in the nation, and pulled off a successful boycott of both NYT Cooking and Games.
A WARNING TO THE TIMES: Tuesday, we will be returning to work, after a successful Election Week ULP Strike. We clearly demonstrated how valuable our work is to #NYTimes. And now we’ll move our fight inside.
We are asking for support from all of our home cooks out there! Hold the picket line with us by #NotCookingToday - stay off #NYTCooking while we fight for just cause, fair pay and remote work protections.
We are a largely remote workforce, with members across the country. As NYC’s picket line draws hundreds, our remote workers are holding their own events in places like Portland, Raleigh, Chicago and (tomorrow) San Francisco…
We know how to work remotely - we’ve done it for years and helped make millions for #NYTimes. But the company is insisting on the right to force us to move to NYC. Meanwhile our boss, Jason Sobel lives and works in California.
Now you can play and not be a scab. We also want to thank the multitude of #NYTimes subscribers who have stopped playing and honored our digital picket line.
We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately. --Benjamin Franklin
Not exactly a perfect man (who is?) but we need to stick together in #solidarity if we want to come through the next four years (or months, or minutes).
:solidarity:
Be safe. Be kind. Do right by yourself and by others.
Meet Erica! She is the Product Manager for our Home Delivery distribution systems and works to ensure the paper can be delivered to our subscribers every morning. Today, she's on the picket line, fighting for a better tomorrow for the people who make #NYTimes.
It is day 3 of our ULP strike and there is nothing that will keep our members off the picket line. We organized this union to bring democracy to our workplace and we will do whatever it takes to win the contract we deserve. ✊
ELECTION DAY STRIKE: We are back out on the picket line today. We know this is a hard day to be on strike for our members but we want to be clear: We are here because of the decisions of #NYTimes management.
MEET US AT THE PICKET LINE: Just after midnight. we began a ULP strike. Management’s refusal to be reasonable on our key demands brought us to this point. See you at the picket line!
We are ready to fight for the contract we deserve, and we are sacrificing our paychecks to do so. Please donate to our strike fund. https://gofund.me/f9e58629
We are on ULP strike. We gave #NYTimes management months of notice of our strike deadline, we made ourselves available around the clock, but the company has decided that our members aren’t worth enough to agree to a fair contract and stop committing unfair labor practices.
Yesterday more than 400 of us rallied outside #NYTimes to let management know we want a fair contract with just cause by the Election. It’s up to A.G. Sulzberger and the masthead to get it done.
