Hey #fediverse, I want to connect to more people here.
I am a #MachineLearning engineer who has experience with #python, #golang, some #rust, #php and #JavaScript. I also love research and have a paper published in #CVPR. Currently, I am using #AI for improving the safety on the roads. I've worked as full-stack engineer in the past.
I find this platform and people here awesome. I've had amazing interactions and want to grow them.
Had my GF write her #Intro post, then realized I may not have done that for this account. Even if I have, sometimes it’s good to revisit because interests and focuses do change. 😊
My name is Kaylie (she/her), though my friends usually call me Kayls or Fox. I’m a #deafblind, #queer, #ActuallyAutistic girl living in Minnesota with my girlfriend and our three cats.
I’m a #gamer, pretty much exclusively on PC these days, though I enjoy #RetroGaming with slightly older and much older titles via #Emulation. My current gaming obsession is #Diablo4, though I have a weird schedule of binging it for weeks on end, then drifting away for a while. I've been a gamer in some capacity or another for practically all but the first four years of my life, so...
Other than that, I make music of many kinds, though not all of it is online. I am an #Ableton user, #synth lover, and #keyboardist, though my first love and joy musically will always be #Guitar, particularly #Ibanez.
Musically, I’m into #Industrial, #Metal, #ProgressiveRock, #Ambient, #Synthwave and #Cyberpunk, #Acoustic, and virtually anything that captures my attention with either a good melody, some obscure and trippy effects, or a good story. I can’t really say my music has boundaries because, honestly, I’m at the point in life where I see beauty in everything, even if that beauty isn't always apparent to me.
I’m also a fan of #AI, and believe that it can do many amazing things for us, if we use it as though it were a tool and not an end-all be-all to everything.
I’m a college #student studying AI, though admittedly, I’m strongly considering switching my focus to my minor, which is in #Education, particularly STEM studies in #Elementary schooling. Either way, I’ve already got quite a bit of experience serving as an SME to my university on a few projects related to AI and found the whole project-focused application of my self-learned skills and know-how to be extremely stimulating.
The one thing I fear is the ethics of Big Tech and corporate greed ruining my love for technology and Futurism as a whole, which is one major reason I’m considering a shift in study focus.
I’m also currently teaching myself #Linux, mostly for the challenge of it, though there may be some utility to it---something something something Windows enshitification...
I’m also very big into concepts like radical #unschooling and #YouthRights. To me, “kids” are just as equal as anyone else. What divides us may be things like lived life experience and maybe some hormonal chemistry, but these aren’t disqualifiers to the right of having a voice and having that voice be heard.
I’m very against the concept of learning through forced memorization, and I believe that anyone and everyone, regardless of age or demographic, should have access to free learning, be given the ability to direct their own education, and should also be able to pursue their interests through hands-on experience and application of the lessons they take in, which is why models like Sudbury appeal to me. It is the job of the teacher to guide and to gently light the way, not to bully or use flimsy metrics that don’t mean a thing to measure the success of a student’s growth for the sake of “standardization.”
Ahem...I get a little impassioned sometimes.
Other things about me include the fact that I’m #ADHD, struggle with and post about #MentalHealth, am very pro #420 and medicate with #weed for multiple conditions and will always be a #stoner, I pirate and #Datahorde for the sake of personal archival purposes, I love making new friends, I can be very unfiltered at times, I practically live online, and I love helping people in any way I can. There seriously needs to be more kindness in the world, and I’m on a mission to do my part where I can.
There are about a billion other things I could put in this thing, but I think you get the idea. As a writer, I sometimes like to string words together too much, so I think to keep some mystery in the mix, I’ll leave it here for you to decide whether or not I’m someone you’d like to follow. Absolutely no pressure of course. 😊
Anyways, if there’s anything else you want to know, please feel free to follow or interact with me. I promise I don’t bite. :P
I'm a 19-year-old from Bangladesh, part of the Gen Z generation. I’m passionate about privacy, FOSS, and freedom of speech. As a practicing Muslim, I find balance and peace in my faith.
I love programming, mainly in Python and C for now, and I'm an avid reader 📚. Recently, I fell in love with chemistry after reading "The Disappearing Spoon."
I stand firmly against any forms of racism and genocide. As an introvert, I grew up feeling a bit lonely because I didn't find many people like me.
Looking forward to connecting with like-minded folks here!
For various reasons, I've moved servers, and due to timing, am welcoming a number of new followers. This seems like an excellent time for a new #intro post.
Hello! I'm Kattni (she/her).
I am a maker, photographer, programmer, mentor, community builder and maintainer, intermittent chef, one-time gardener, and collector of excellent bags. I am #neurodivergent and #queer from many angles. I am tolerated by a cat who continues to let me live with her.
I am a content creator, creating approachable information, project builds, and tutorials. I am passionate about sharing what I learn and know with others who are interested, and this is my opportunity to do that full-time. Everything I find interesting is a potential topic, which means anything from history, to community, to tech, to programming, to photography, to biology, to office organisation, and onward. You can find me on Patreon and GitHub Sponsors. I am currently sharing all of my content on my blog, kattni.com. I am working to build a community around my content, so please consider joining me on my new adventure.
I am Conference Chair for PyOhio 2024. We're back in person for the first time since 2019. This is the first time I've done any kind of volunteering or conference organising of any kind, and it has been an adventure full of a ton of work. I am grateful to my amazing team, all of whom have made this situation possible for me. I will be Chair for 2025 as well, though I am hoping to spend next year spinning up my replacement for 2026.
I've done various speaking engagements, including being a 2019 keynote speaker at PyOhio, even though public speaking terrifies me. My most recent talks were at three summits at PyCon US 2024: the Education Summit, the Community Organisers' Summit, and the Documentation Summit. It was great to share things I was passionate about, but three talks at one event was entirely too much. I don't recommend it.
I left my job in September 2023 to pursue my passions. I spent the previous six years working with the CircuitPython project. I was an open source community leader, technical writer, new contributor coordinator, embedded software developer, CircuitPython library codebase manager, and embedded hardware designer, among other things.
There is definitely more to me than this, but I think this is a solid introduction to my current situation. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you around the Fediverse!
"If you wish to prevent this you have to ensure that none of the people that follow you also doesn't follow someone on a service you don't like."
I would not even know how to go about this. In fact, I am not opposed to my content going to any real #Fediverse platform, i.e. that are not-for-profit/corporate. My issue are #BigTech platforms because of the agenda they have (see earlier #intro for a brief summary.)
Very interesting, how is it possible that you boosted my #Intro thread, even though I have #NoBridge in my bio and am not even a member of your group?!?
I think I owe you a quick #INTRO, as I have not been in contact with you before, so you might better understand my concerns.
I am a political commentator, as well as an activist. This is why I cannot remain silent:
This is a global super-election year. #Democracy is up for grabs in about 50 countries.1)--This is how the billionaires and the #autocrats like #Putin and #Xi see it, or how #YoelRoth...
We are Mitosis, a newly formed intersectional anarchist radical communal care collective.
We are members who split from our original "Radical Communal Care" group. Our priority is caring for each other, for the planet, for other beings. This care is both our goal and a means to an end to create a more just world, that is safe for everyone. In a world with violent capitalist politics, war, an ongoing pandemic and on the brink of a climate catastrophe, caring for one another is a radical act. It is both the smallest and the biggest thing that we can do right now, every day. We recognize how the violent hierarchical systems we were raised in can impact our actions, and want to learn and unlearn together. We strive to create an environment in which we can feel safe to do so. We extend empathy to others and to ourselves, try our best to understand each other and celebrate our differences.
Our intersectional values lead us to oppose all forms of oppression and injustice, including but not limited to ableism, speciesism, racism, queerphobia.
We advocate for wearing masks, cleaning the air, accessibility, inclusion.
Please follow us to keep up-to-date with our development and ways to get involved as we grow as a collective.
hi, i'm purnima & i'm from india. i write poetry & SFF fiction, i work as a freelance editor, & i'm training to be a tattoo artist. you might know me as that person who came in here like a whirlwind during the mass exodus & dropped 30 writing prompts. or as the one with real-life stories about monkeys getting high on coffee. or the one who wishes you find some joy every day. 🌱
i love talking about books, niche music, animals, & bad puns. don't be shy!
Firstly, don't forget to post your #intro (with that hashtag), as many fediverse users are following/watching that hashtag. You can also check: https://fediverse.info/explore/people
Secondly, don't be shy in using hashtags in your post and on your profile description. Hashtags will help big time in content discovery.
Now, the technical terms you might encounter, and hopefully won't get confused.
* There are different fediverse software available, for example #Mastodon is the one running on your instance. Each software offers a different set of features.
* An instance is the same as a server. Each instance is running on one particular fediverse software.
* Different instances are interoperable and interconnected. They do this through the #ActivityPub protocol, which is a #WebStandard managed by the @w3c.
* There are also fediverse group services like https://chirp.social and https://a.gup.pe - Chirp Social allows for moderation but requires creating an admin account. Guppe groups doesn't offer moderation features, however, it is the easiest to create (in case you are interested in starting your own). Both are free-of-charge.
* There are also custom #frontend available. Some instances offer their own custom frontend. This is different from themes/skins. For example, this post, I sent it from the https://phanpy.social frontend for Mastodon. There is also https://trunks.social frontend also for Mastodon. Think #Twitter, but you're accessing it from #TweetDeck.
* There are also mobile apps available. Some can handle different fediverse software, some only made specifically for one particular fediverse software.
For some #history: * The fediverse was born in 2008-05-18 when Evan Prodromou sent the first message “This is my first post”.
* The term “fediverse” was only coined on 2012-05-25 by Mark Eckenwiler. It was known originally as #Identiverse which was coined by Luke Slater on 2010-03-14.
* The current protocol, ActivityPub, was started on 2014-09-06 and only became a web standard on 2018-01-23. The first protocol was known as #OpenMicroBlogging which later was replaced by #OStatus in 2010-03-04.
Hello, I'm Serge and I'm 🇨🇭. I currently live between Switzerland and Italy (yes, it's somewhat complicated...) and can communicate (and sometimes even think) in 🇮🇹, 🇫🇷, 🇬🇧 & 🇩🇪.
I'm a scientific and technical journalist and a cordial communicator. I used to be a biologist, and before that a zoo keeper, and to this day I've kept a strong interest in natural sciences.
