Geeky excitement here! Only a subset of linux apps serve small touch-screens. That set increased, because supposedly keyboard shortcuts will now work; like 'shift'-'command'-'s' for 'save as'. Isn't that exciting?! ;-)
Linux mobile phones, using squeekboard keyboard, now have a real shift-key; the kind that not only shifts letters, but also shifts command-key, and alt-key combinations and more.
Oh my. Is emacs org-mode really going to work now!?
In light of the recent #Omnivore acquisition, I recently published a brief overview of the various #selfhosted bookmark and read later apps that can easily replace popular hosted services. As usual, they're all fantastic and should be considered based on individual preferences and needs!
Happy Transgender Day of Remembrance to anyone who celebrates it. Made this in GIMP real quick. I don't speak for the Linux community as a whole, but I feel like Tux would be really supportive, and I hope the rest of the Linux community can follow such an example.
Consumers: "No, no, we prefer the adware loaded OS, really. We only trust large corporations, Microsoft loves us. Please give us AI, and I like the advertising in my Start Menu. It will even be better occupying my screen! How dare you suggest a non-corporate OS!!"
What a refreshing story! I imagine many of us here owe a great deal to @libreoffice a software suite that has freed us from the grip of the document monopoly, thus broken our dependency on the fate of a single company. If you're curious about how LibreOffice became what it is today, I highly recommend watching this in your spare time: https://youtu.be/9M468Krlawo
FreeCAD 1.0 is out, and the binaries for various platforms are now available for download too (yesterday they released the source, but today binaries are available too). After 22 years of development, it's now a very robust app that competes head to head with heavyweights in the CAD space.
Very happy to see PhotoGimp, which turns Gimp into Photoshop-like, still works fine with Gimp 3.0-RC1. I use it to edit my watercolor paintings (mostly contrast and colors, since my scanner is not accurate). You'd be surprised how much digital editors are used by traditional painters these days. Especially for commissions and book illustrations where clients want changes all the time.
